So I took my charcoal canister that I removed from my car due to the fact I needed a new one. I looked at the part number so I could find a new one and the part number was 77704-53011. I was informed by lexus that this was not a GS part number this was actually a is300 part. The part has been in the since I have had it 2011(barely drove it)The lexus dealer says the part number should be 77740-30273. I have seen the 53011 part advertised as a gs part number too. Do anyone have any input on this? Is the part that I had in incorrect? Will the check engine light come on with that 53011 part in?

Yep, the 30273 is the proper number for the 01-04 GS 30270 for 98-00 GS and yes the the 53011 is for the IS, However, its just a box with hoses and a valve, so I dont see why it wouldnt be interchangeable.

On a different note, usually the problem is with a dirty valve and not the whole container. You can save a ton of money just buying the valve.

Thanks. I put in a new one and I know the code was from topping off my gas.(bad design). The light was still on so I'm going to try to replacing the hoses today. I'm going to try try to jump valve off with a 9v battery to see if it works.Jokster if I test it will it respond as being good if it's dirty?

I've been meaning to do this one. How hard was it to get to the hoses/valve?

The problem with the valve is that its exposed to the elements and it gets so rusty that it doesnt want to switch open and close. If you do a search, you'll see someone removed it and its hideous. Just by looking at it, you'll know that it needs replacing. I'm sure power still goes through it, but its so caked with crap that the hinge doesnt want to move.

ok, searched and it doesn't sound too difficult. Question: Is there an evap valve/solenoid under the hood also? If so, where is it? -Thx

Under my understanding, its just the one on the canister.

Could this crack in this hose to my canister be the problem of why I'm throwing a code. It looks like it's cracked on both ends.

Yes, absolutely! This is why its important to run a 'fogger' through the system when the p044x code come up. The fog will expel from wherever the problem may be at, be it an open valve, cracked canister or in this case, a cracked hose. Even a loose or bad gas cap can cause it to go off. Good find.

Now that I think about it, you never posted what code you got? I just assumed you needed a canister. Every of the above causes I posted has its own code. With a crack like that, I would think 441, 442 or 456. Bad canister or valve is usually 446

There where a couple of them I will get the codes redone tomorrow my light just came back on

Not to "bomb" this thread, but I'm getting a 441 (Purge Flow) & 446 (Vent Control Circuit). Gonna crawl under and look at mine unit today. Hopefully it's something obvious like the cracked hose in the pic.

So I went to the stealership about getting the hose the told me the don't sell it by itself. 900 for a canister yeah right. I tried a junkyard they said the just had the canister not the hose. It has a weird bend to it so it does look like anything you can get from a parts store. Anyone have any suggestions? By the way it's the hose that goes into the tank

You can try getting a generic fuel line hose at an auto part store. By looking at the picture the bend in the hose doesnt seem to be a 90 degree curve so any fuel line hose should work. You can also remove the hose and take it into AutoZone and have them match it.

I replace my purge valve at the canister a while back.
