Default Strange, noticeable clicking noise when I step on the brake pedal in my '03 430

I was backing my '03 GS430 out of the garage tonight, and when I stepped on the brake pedal, I heard a clicking noise that sounded like it was originating from right behind my Nav screen.

I did this search https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sea...archid=6082747, but nothing there was quite equal to what I was hearing. It seems like everything else was fine, but the clicking noise was pretty loud and pronounced.

The brakes feel really solid -- they have about 6k on a 4-wheel job that was done last summer. The car in question has 175k on it, and still has quite a few original parts on the suspension.

Any thoughts on this?

No, that's the strange part. I was just backing out of my garage onto my driveway at about 3mph.

I then put the car in park to see if it would make the same noise when I stepped on the brake pedal, and it did.

Maybe the motor vacuum set up that boosts the brakes? Do a search

Shift interlock solenoid. Its activated by the brake switch so you can move gear selector. Once in Drive, it should stop the clicking all together.

BINGO..

I test mine occasionally while in park, by barely putting pressure on the brake pedal and hear it click to release.. The noise is actually coming from upper part of the shift plate.. like a few inches above Park where the little hole is, where you can manually lock it with a tool..

I freaked out the other day too lol... But listened closer and im 100% sure its the mechanism that allows the shifter to be moved while in park but not as youre driving. Forgot what its called.
