I just went to get my ball joints replaced and had to have my speed sensors replaced, to my astonishment they were covered by my aftermarket warranty. Saved me a HUGE chunk of change. For all those that may think (as I did) that these warranties are useless this is a testement to the fact that some are life savers. Could have costed me $900-1100. Costed me $100.

Trust me, I've learned, this is my 1st purchase/ 2nd GS 300 (1999 GS300 CPO). The 1st 1999 GS300 was CPO car as well. I would highly recommend having the car inspected by a non dealer mechanic and a good body shop person. The 1st GS I purchased was on the word of the Dealer and I had it inspectected a month later. The body shop guy knew the car had body/point work done before I parked the car. The bottom line is, the car had been 95 percent repainted and was sold as a CPO with the CPO price.
I was totally disappointed with the Dealer, having sold me a car and did not disclose the body work and paint work.

I called Lexus and they were only concerned with the body structure and that's it. If a car has been repainted,( bumbers included) Lexus will not warranty the paint. You will have to work this out with the Dealer. If the Dealer indicates they never repainted any part of the car, then you're screwed. You will never be able to proove anything.

I worked with the Dealer and the took the car back. They (Dealer) found me the color I wanted with the mileage and gave me the same price I paid for the car after driving if for several months.
Well the story doesn't end here. Well the 2nd GS300 I purchased also had both bumber repainted, but not by the Dealer I purchased the car from. I was so unset with the paint think, that I asked the Dealer to not perform any paint/touch up work on the car until I inspect the car.

So I've been happy with the car far. I've noticed the clearcoat has started to come off the front and rear bumpers. I relocated to the different city than where I purchased the car. I took the car to the local dealer of the new city to have the fix the clearcoat on the bumbers. They refused to fix, only if the dealer I purchased the car from reimbuse them for the work. I was outraged, and felt like giving Lexus back the car that I've head so much about 'Customer Care/ Customer's for Life'.

Well I called the Dealer that I purchased the car from, and they agreed to look at the car 'THE NEXT TIME IN TOWN". So I will have to takecare of the problem myself before it gets worse. I expected more from LEXUS. I think I will go to Hyundi and Kia next..

Just My 2 cents.

What is the used lexus to buy LS400, 430, GS300, 400, 430, ES? I have a 1991 now, but am thinking of upgrading or going back to a European car. I have to admit the short time I've owned this car I've been impressed, but it needs a new ECU, complete paint, front seat recovered, and I got a really noisey valve, my mechanic says they all do it, but it drives me up the wall, also the car originally had 16" rims, I put the OEM stock 15" rims back on with new tires, but I'm still getting vibration. Had the front end checked said everything was okay. Oh I put new struts on it too. Think I want a newer one with less issues. This is a damn well built car, if I don't go up a few years, than I'm going back to a German or Scandinavian vehicle. Thanks.

Never trust carfax.... total waste of time and money. Have a Lexus dealer check it out or a really reputable mechanic in town take a look at it. I bout a used GS with 80k on it, but knew it was solid when i looked in the glove box and found all the service receipts and records from a Lexus dealer. So I felt comfortable knowing the car was well taken care of. See if you can find any maintenance history or where the car originated from as well. Good luck.

I would examine the records of any used Lexus to ensure the recommended maintenance has been kept up. Then I would have a trusted mechanic do a "used car inspection" (they cost around $50) to ensure there are no major issues with the car. Obviously a clean carfax is good too for peace of mind.

CPO is nice for the extra warranty, but if you can save significant money going private party or non-CPO, I would not hesitate. Lexus makes high quality vehicles that are generally very reliable.
