Default New GS owner questions.

Hey everyone. As i posted before i was in the process of selling my mint LS400 to get a GS400. The 400 sold so I went back to looking and found an even better condition 300. I wanted the 400 but I'm happy with my mint black on black 300. Guess there's more room to work on the motor. Lol.

Anyways. I tried searching but couldn't come up with any answers so I apologize if I missed a thread that answers this but, how do you tell if your headlights are the factory HID or the halogen. I want to put whiter lights in but need to know which bulbs to get.

I also want to re-do all interior lights to LED and wondered for those of you who have where you got yours from and what all bulbs I need.

And finally, this 1 owner GS sadly had the 3M wood crap on it and I'm in the process of trying to remove it without scratching the surface underneath. Anyone got any tips on this. I'm just using an old Lexus key and it's working ok but it's a very slow process.

To check if it's an HID or halogen, turn the lights on, stand in front of the car and have someone start the car. If the lights adjust themselves then it has HIDs, if not it's halogen. Another way to check is to take the plug off the back of the headlight housing. If it has a braided wire running from the bottom of the housing up to the bulb then again, it's an HID. Those are probably the two easiest ways I can think of rather than just asking the previous owner.

For interior LEDs, you can order them as sets from either LuxuryMods or iJDMToy.

To remove the 3M adhesive, probably be easiest to use a hair dryer to heat it up as you pull then clean it up with some goo gone. I'm sure someone will chime in with another option as I'm not sure how the goo gone will react to the finish on the panels...

Well you should be able to tell if they're HIDs just by turning them on and looking at them.. HIDs are a lot whiter, I believe they were only an option starting in 01 for the 300s at least but I could be mistaken. If they are halogen and you'd like to stay stock I recently put in silver star ultra sylvania bulbs and they look much whiter and brighter than any other halogen I've had.

nope, mine came factory option with them on my 98 gs300,

But its pretty obvious if you have HID. literally just look at your lights. You can always upgrade your halogens to HID's by purchasing a HID kit from a vender on here. I would recommend spending the extra few bucks and getting the AC kit opposed to the DC kit.

If you have OEM HIDs and want a different light out put, the cheapest and cost effective way is to buy an aftermarket kit. but this is all from my experience and my opinions..
