V8 Owners, Change out your old motor mounts!
It's a difficult DIY that I did not attempt. I had mine done for only $160 for both. Had 2 inexperienced service writers give me the same low quote which they had to honor. Most places don't know what is involved and charge a generic rate. I had a little bit of an acceleration delay when punching it and a slight clunking when going down hill when the car downshifts. Also a little bit of rough idle when the Ac is off (tell tale sign). My GS430 still drove very smooth. A non enthusiast would think everything was perfectly normal.
I have only 87K miles on my 2005 GS430 and my mounts were worn. After changing them out with new oem ones I notices my GS430 was even more refined. Smoother power delivery at all speeds. My VSC light kicks on a little more since there is more power delivery to the wheels. On the highway while doing some "spirited" driving I notice improve acceleration, pulled harder all the way thru 100+mph and a little less vibration at around the 60-70mph range.
My previous car was a 1999 GS400 and changing those mount after 130K miles made a DRAMATIC difference. The acceleration delay when flooring it was bad and had rough idle.
So get your mounts changed if there is no history of it being done ! Your car WILL feel brand new !

a lot of people just think of vibration as part of owning an older vehicle, not true at all, old mounts are usually the culprit to vibrations if the vehicle is perfectly fine. the car does feel brand new with new mounts. Im pretty sure bad motor mounts and old coilovers are the culprit to my oil pan gasket leaks, when i replaced my pan the two rear bolts have been mushroomed and deformed a tad from smashing onto the front cross member and breaking the FIPG seal, so ill be doing my mounts soon, They needed replacing ever since i bought the car a year ago, just never really felt the need to. I'm taking the risk on aftermarket Anchor mounts because they are a quarter price of OEM Toyota/Lexus mounts from Sewell with my employee discount at oriellys, plus lifetime warranty, and i have a feeling i will end up blowing them up again after one harsh enough bump in my car so thats why im opting for a warranty item. Cars got 234K on it and they feel like they havent been replaced ever haha.

Worn motor mounts TRULY throws off the power delivery of these cars. It is very easy to just live with bad mounts since it will still drive smooth. You will only notice it when you drive a little aggressive. Extremely bad ones like both broken in half will cause rough downshift, rough idle and the car feeling unstable when going over bumps since the engine is moving around.
Hold off on all mods till you do motor mounts and the 1 transmission mount.

160 to change those?! i woulda paid that. lol.
but i did change my mounts the other month and the car does feel much better. definitely do maintenance before mods.
im doing bushings during the week. bleh. at least when its done then it will be done forever

shouldnt be too hard, just pull the two bolts underneath on each mount and the top bolt, raise the motor and pull em out. The hardest thing i would believe is just squeezing them out of such a small area. trans, if its anything like the sc is really easy, pull the cross member off, and the bolts off of the mount and replace, you will need a jack to raise the motor and trans up.
