If it is the 10 dollar ebay chip then I'm sorry to inform you that they literally do absolutely nothing.

Lol, it's sold by vivid racing. This was tested on IS, but according to them they make them for all GS.

I have a buddy who works for Vivid. I asked him about this tuning for the 2GS platform (specifically my '99 GS400), and he said this:

There's a "port auto flash" available. It uploads small bits of code to the ECU and the TCU. Helps power output and increases transmission shifting performance. However, I can't guarantee that you'll see the gains you're looking for since we've never tested it here. Normally, the only time I sell this version of a tune is to guys with DCT and DSG style gearboxes looking for improved shifting performance and typically they also do a flash tune or piggyback as well.
So, there you have it!

Hahaha, people have been tuning cars for years. Its one of the most common modifications people do when trying to gain some horsepower.

I've never heard of a single instance where mild tuning had any negative effects on a car.

386 with bolt-ons? I'm going to assume you mean the IS-F, which really has no relevance to this post. Either that, or by "bolt-on" you mean forced induction because there's no way you're seeing 386hp with an I/H/E setup on a 2GS.

Agreed.

And if you tuned your car to accommodate all those bolt ons, you'd probably be up over 400 on the dyno.

Many have claimed to tune the stock ECU but no one has really shown a reasonable gain. Toyota ECUs are not like Honda's so the chances of gaining performance and holding it over the long run is nil.

That video was funny! More VTEC yo! Haha. I miss my S2000. The only way a chip would work is pre OBD. I had an old 87 BMW 325e that I replaced the chip on it. It's actually a computer chip that replaces a factory chip on the ECU. I'm sure all it did was change timing because it required premium gas after install. It did work however. Just like the early Miatas that you could advance timing to get more torque.
