Default Braking in the 98 GS4 Old Top Gear

Short, but they clocked the 98 GS4 70 to 0 in 139 feet, 2.8 seconds.

One of the best there was at the time. "One of the fastest stopping cars money can buy"

I put mine to the test a few weeks ago, was doing 65-70 and traffic came to abrupt halt in Chicago. I stopped, my wife hurt her neck on the seatbelt it was so hard. But we were safe.... I was impressed the brakes did as well as they did.

At the time the gs had better brakes than a Ferrari.

I love the brakes on our cars. They work very well and very smooth.

Interesting...

I never really considered my GS430 to be a elite braking car, lol.

Do a panic stop from 70 mph, then try it with a "lesser" car....

I would like to compare braking with stock 16's, 17's and then some larger wheels. Betting the 16s stop best. They used 16's in the old top gear video. It might have been a GS300, but then again, the weight diff is almost nothing between the GS4 and GS. I would like to see stopping from 70 to 0 in a last gen Supra TT. Those had the 13" brakes that we like to pirate for our GS's....

Keep watching. The porsche stopped in 170 feet. The Lexus was 139 feet.

in Japan you could pick them up as standard equipment..... from TRD.

the only problem ive encountered with the standard brakes is that my car loves to warp rotor's.... maybe im pussing to hard.

Funny since everyone talks down on the 2 GS' braking system like it's horrific.
Nice find.

That's one of the first things that we noticed about the GS. The brakes are so much better than my Camry's.

Just try a panic stop from 70 mph, they aren't too bad! I was sure glad I wasn't in my Buick, same size brakes, but doesn't brake near as hard (heavier car) and nose heavy wrong wheel drive.

I hope to get some 17's soon for mine so I can go with the Supra TT rotors.

The braking was one of the selling points for me to step up from a LS400 to the GS, the difference is astonishing. Its as close to my corvette brakes as ive found in a sedan.

Really?? I'm guessing you had a PRE '95 LS. Yeah, or are you saying that even the '95-'00 Lexus LS (which used the 4-piston calipers up front) had inferior braking capabilities compared to the Second-gen GS models? If so, that's sort of suprising.

All I know is- we installed the (sweeet!) all-aluminum 4-pot LS calipers up front on my '01 GS4 with new slotted/drilled rotors and EBC "Redstuff" pads all around, and the fuggin car literally stops as well as a new Porsche Panamera, or BETTER. It's insane, honestly. I LOVE em !
