Arrow 98 GS4 Driver's side door issue: car doesn't know it's open

When I open my driver's side door the car still thinks the door is shut; the interior light doesn't come on and the chime doesn't sound. This happened intermittently at first (meaning after being opened and waiting 5-10 seconds, the interior light would finally come on and the chime would begin with the key in the ignition).

On other cars I would attribute this to a door "plunger" sticking. However, I do not see such a device on this fine machine. Can someone educate me on the what I should be looking for to narrow this down?

Yes, I searched, but perhaps my search terms were too general as I got about 11K results.

Thanks in advance guys!

Odds are you've for a bad actuator, common issue with these cars. It can fixed very economically with a little extra work. Search for door actuators and you'll find a lot of good info.

Kyle -

Thanks. I did the actuator fix on 2 of 4 doors when I bought it 1 year ago. The driver's side was complete at that time. Also, the lock mechanism works perfectly. It's simply that the car doesn't "know" the door is open. I don't think it has anything to do with the lock as all doors work perfectly in regards to lock/unlock on the FOB and door button. Does that make sense?

Thanks

I have the same issue, and my mechanic told me the same thing. As I understand it, the door lock actuator and the door "plunger" sensor you mention are two different pieces in the same overall assembly. I intend to replace mine one of these days, but just been lazy..

OK, gotcha. Thanks for the comment and heads up.
