I noticed on my doors the chrome trim piping has held up but the front and back bumpers have essentially lost the chrome trim. Its like it flaked off. can anything be done to restore it?

You can black it out with tape like Justin mentions or replace it.

An OEM one for the rear pn 52751 is $95 with our CL discount at Sewell, about the same for the front

Probably some aftermarket varieties but you'd have to cut and/or figure out widths, etc.

Try mother's mag polish on it first. That's what I did with mine and it brought back the shine.

It may not exactly shine back up. It looks gray right now. Like it might be the plastic that is normally under the chrome is exposed.

And i had no idea it was removable and replaceable.

Pep Boys of all places sells a roll of stuff that works perfect lol. When I get home from work I can get u part # brand etc. Height wise fits perfect but depth wise its a little thinner but defiantly looks way better than my old weathered trim did. Price was way better too!

I just bought this for my rear bumper. Still waiting to get my bumper back from the body shop to test fit. Should fit perfect though, says oem replacement part.

Mine had the gray weathered look too, but it polished up pretty nicely.

I replaced my rear bumper molding with an aftermarket chrome molding. I think it was 7mm wide and it looks very close to OEM (you wouldn't notice it if you didn't know).
I don't remember how the front bumper is but at the rear you have 'holes' at each end so it doesn't matter if you cut the molding to your desired lenght because the ends will be hidden.
Side moldings are more difficult to achieve the OEM look 'cause you can't hide the molding ends anywhere.

Here's some after pics:

^^^ its like you never touched it.

Im curious to know, are there any builds with those trim pieces removed and covered? I've always wondered how the 2GS would look if they weren't there.

The stuff I used is made by COWLES CUSTOM. Its called Chrome Adhesive Backed, Flexible Automotive Trim. You'll want the 1/4 inch wide 20foot long stuff. Easy to peel the old stuff off your bumper, I cleaned with warm soapy water, rinsed and then wiped, actually dowsed the groove with rubbing alcohol to get rid of any grime. Let it just air dry, then peeled just a couple of inches off of the double sided tape backing and ran the end piece or starting piece through the hole into the bumper you'll see once original trim is removed. Lined it up all the way across the bumper with the red backing still on it. Cut it abit long on the other side as mentioned earlier by someone else. Then as I made my way from one side of the bumper to the next, I peeled the backing off and once the entire bumper was done I folded a micro fiber rag to run back over it with pressure. Repeat same process for the front. Rear bumper I started on drivers side and front bumper I started passenger side. Super easy, makes a huge difference. Oh and don't worry if you don't get all of the old double sided tape residue off before running the new trim, I didn't and it dosent show. This stuff was like $10. Definitely worth it lol.

I redid mine with the AutoZone stuff too, it is much thinner than the factory piece, what I did to lessen the thickness difference was to add a layer of double sided tape behind the strip. This pushed it out close to where the factory strip sits.
