Default 2001 gs300 HID headlamp housing

Recently had a car back into me in a parking lot..can anyone tell me the difference in HID vs non HID housings?

having a hard time finding HID housings....seems non HID's are everywhere
are all "sport designs HID?

thanks

one uses the autoleveling HID lights, the other uses standard halogen lights.

You can't put OEM HID headlights on your car because like what the poster said above, they are Auto-leveling. There's no way to convert because of the factory added sensors in front and rear of car, and extra wiring connected to the headlight system. I wish it was easy to just put in OEM Auto-leveling HID's from non-HID, I would've have them on right now. I think the only GS300's with HID's are 03-05.

I don't know much about the Sport Designs; but only the 03 and 04 SD's have Auto-leveling HID's. 01 and 02 had Halogens.

You'll be better off getting non HID and put in "good quality" PnP HID bulbs/ballast & harness, like I have in my 01. Or you can do a retrofit with projectors for better and brighter light output (which is next on my list for next year).

Please do yourself and the rest of us a favor by not putting any plug and play HID kit into a non-HID housing. Other than not being designed for that type of bulb, they create a massive amount of glare without a correct cutoff which most likely will blind oncoming traffic. In addition to the auto-leveling feature, the bowls are also different between the HID and non- headlight housings.

Either get the correct headlight for your car, or (in the case that you decide to swap over to halogen housings), do a retrofit BEFORE a plug and play kit. New/Used OEM HID headlights can be found on eBay for less than $250 a side.

I believe you can install the factory hid into your non- hid car. Just can't use the auto leveling feature. You also gotta change the headlight connection in order to give the hid power.

There you go:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1486GPB-2001-2005-Lexus-GS430-GS-430-Left-Driver-HID-Xenon-Headlight-OEM-/141425425254?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20ed9cbb66&vxp=mtrhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/1391GGB-Lexus-GS300-GS430-GS430-Right-Passenger-HID-Xenon-Headlight-OEM-NICE-/131299984750?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e9216c56e&vxp=mtr
But you'd also need the autolevel system to get them to work properly.
It'd be easier to do a retrofit.

Halogen housings seems to be more expensive than HID housings.

I have a set I'm about to sell. I'm letting everything go with them for $300. Headlights, ballast, D2R bulbs, auto leveler, everything included.

Sorry for my misinformation about using PnP HID kits, I bought my car with them already installed in mines (first time having them on a car). After some research, I found that D2R's are for reflectors; so I'll attempt to find or build debased D2R HID bulbs and use those for now until I'm able to do an LS Retro with Osram CBI's.

So you'd have to find HID reflectors (which requires opening the housings) because the halogen reflectors aren't the same.

Wow really? So me doing this will be a waste of money and time. I'll just keep what I have now save the money until the retro. I did go and out and lowered the lights down just a bit because these PnP's are super bright and in the face when walking up to it.

Oh okay, I went and reread some of the earlier posts and missed where NorthStyle said that the reflector bowls are different. Welp, I'm done with this. Hopefully the op finds what he's looking for.

I am considering a retrofit of sorts..q45's are great looking but have read the output isn't the best. Not exactly excited about opening up new halogen headlamps either. Anyone have any experience with "anti-glare bulbs"? Hard to justify that kind of money for some stock HID headlights. I have a few weeks till car is repaired so I guess I'll keep looking and watching ebay.

You should wait and save for a retro. It's worth it.

Yup, I've been planning this a week after owning the car; LS430's, Bosch Gen 2 or 3 ballast (will boost them for 35 and 55/65 watts), and maybe make custom LED DRLs.

the lights I'm letting go are still Installed in my car. I recently brought some LS430 projectors that I'm putting in another set of gs headlights I purchased yrs ago. So once I take out the headlights they going on sale. I'm not taking anything off the lights. Like I said everything included: D2R bulbs, ballast, leveler. Once I removed the lights I'm going place them in a box & the highest bidder gets them. Like I said they are still functional & in my car now & will be out next week once I get my projectors back from trs.
