Default Timing Belt Swap

Heads up when doing a timing belt swap, once you release the tensioner, make sure you move the crank back and forth and make sure everything still lines up. I had it spot on, but once the tensioner was released I never moved it and it moved both cams off by one tooth. I thought I had it spot on, never moved the crank nor cams, so I figured I couldn't go wrong.

All was ok, I didn't hurt it, but it did trip a cam sensor (left) fault. I pulled the covers and verified it was off.

So double check it, triple check it....

The trick is to put a little bit of slack on the tensioner side of the belt when you put it on. One way of doing that is to advance he exhaust valve slightly and retard the crank slightly. The following video will show how it's done. It will appear at about the 4 minute 50 second mark.

Yes, ALWAYS rotate the engine a full 2 revolutions BY HAND after changing the belt to confirm the marks line up.

I just put my cams off one tooth, then released tensioner and it all lined up.....spun it twice and bam...back to the marks. The only funky thing I found is the marks on the timing gear...there were 2 marks...make sure your using the right one to start with.
