Default Yellow Check Oil Light Question

I'm new to the GS300 and my check engine light is on and in yellow. I was told by the Lexus mechanic that the yellow light means to check it and red means you've got no oil. Does the GS300 have a way of sensing that the car is due for an oil change and illuminate this light? Is it typically reset after an oil change automatically or by the tech? Mine does not come on for a few minutes until after the car is being driven. So it basically is cycling off. I appreciate the insight and the car definitely has oil in it although it looks like it needs a change.

Check engine light is different. There are 2 possible oil related lights, low oil pressure light, or low oil light.

Please refer to the owners manual for explanation of the lights. there is an owners manual online at lexus if you don't have one.

In the future you should try to shy away from stating stuff like "it looks like it needs a change" because that's an opinion statement and not a statement of any facts or observations so it doesn't help.

If you got an oil light, did you check the oil level? was it above min? what was it's color and smell. That is a better description of an observation.

But anyway, if you have no idea how long the oil has been in there, then yea, first step is to do an oil and filter change. That's the most basic as maintenance procedures go.

This model gs does not sense oil changes. If you get a light, it means an current issue that you should address.

Later Lexus/Toyota models do have maintenance reminders, however they also do not sense the oil, all they do is count to 5000miles (or other number) and then turn on a light.

Mine does exactly the same. GS400 with JDM Celsior motor. The oil is at the "F" mark on the dipstick....
