Turbo the 2jzge or do a swap 2jzgte
Which one would be better? I already have a 2jzge out of my lexus gs300 is it better to turbo this one or just go with a 2jzgte?

If you are going for big 3-4 digit horsepower numbers, than the swap would be better in the long run. More expensive, but way easier to make bigger, more reliable power.
I think if you are not drag racing every weekend at the track, i see no reason to have a 1000+ HP supra. For most common people, a well running 400 HP car is more than enough. So to me, its still a supra engine thats boosted. So no f ***s given in this corner.

I remember when I was doing research on this topic some time ago, there was a similar thread in this forum where some guy kept going on and on how the VVTi version of the GE engine (01+ GS) had weaker connecting rods than the older non-VVTi version. GTE version was unaffected VVTi or non-VVTi.
Any confirmation on that? I'll see if I can find the thread.

Bippu147 is the one who goes on and on about weaker connecting rods in the VVTi GE. I've never heard anything of the source anywhere else though so don't know how accurate his claim is.

The VVTi definitely has considerably smaller rods. See this thread for pictures.
I'm curious why Toyota went with thinner connecting rods with the VVTi? Best guess was for less rotating mass to eek out a bit more gas mileage efficiency (shrug)?
I'm curious what the actual net effect is on reliability, though, since everything else is the same. If people have gotten 800rwhp out of the 'weaker' connecting rods, then they must not be total junk. Surely a more DD friendly 400rwhp build wouldn't be a problem by that measure, wouldn't you think?
