C'mon guys, the OP probably knows the BMW is not going to be as reliable as his GS. Let's just congratulate him on his new purchase.

congrads! I miss my 540i... but reliability and peace of mind made me keep my GS for the long term.

Haha come on guys I've had only one issue with the car do far and that was the starter went out! We have an aftermarket warrant company on the car so they covered half to cost. I only paid 200 bucks for everything but other than that the car runs absolutely amazing! I'm hoping I don't run I to any issues, but yes guys we don't indeed have a warranty.

Let us know every time something goes wrong so we can all use it as proof to why we own Lexus's. without an aftermarket warranty that car is a nightmare. But nothing drives like it... How much was the warranty and how long does it last. Better count your pennies once it expires....

Yes I'm not going to lie they are not reliable as the GS but nothing drives like a bmw. They do stand true to their name As the ultimate driving machine. I absolutely love driving it and the twin turbo makes it that much more amazing. Every car has there fault just like the GS door actuators are known to go bad. The starters are actually placed in the wrong spot. That is where they are exposed to alotta of head and are known to go bad. Other than that the car runs beautifully

For right now.............
My brother also switched to bmw....
He would always mention his "ultimate driving machine"...
Until it became his "ultimate nightmare machine".......
He paid allot for his warranty,
all of a sudden one thing after another started going bad...
The warranty was good at first one it came to the expensive stuff
the warranty did not want to cover....
They ended up going to court, he lost.....

Now hes back to lexus

Seriously though, congrats on the purchase and good luck. I love Beamers. I hate repairs.

.....then why would they put it there? that makes no sense. (legitimately curious as to why they would do that, not hating)

To make it more compact. There is nothing occupying the space under the intake manifold. Unfortunately, heat rises from the engine block so the starter gets baked. Within 3 days of buying my "reliable" GS400, my starter went out.

I would think if your starter gets a lotta head it should be purring along nicely.

Those German Tigers were great tanks "when they worked"

Sheehan1P congratulations on the "5". It's a big jump in driving feel and cornering performance. Maybe you can let us know how things go over the weeks and months. I know you're getting heckled for buying it but everybody's priorities are different and I suppose this is a Lexus forum.

Some CL owners spend obscene amounts of time and money on their cars on looks and "stance" alone... things that will never help the car's handling to Bimmer levels.
