Default Is the 01+ GS any quieter inside than the 98-00?

I've owned a few GS300s, one from each year between 98 - 00 before jumping ship to a 2003 ES300.
I read somewhere that amongst the improvements in 01+ was noise insulation. Can someone chime in on that..?

I find myself wanting to get back in a GS but I know that I'm spoiled with how serene/quiet the ES is, but the looks are just bland.

the louder your car is, the more dominant you are.

Yep, I can confirm, i have '99 and '05. The '05's is quieter and alot smoother. Its not that noticeable but I would say its at least one level quieter.

Thanks, I needed to hear that. I guess I'll set my eyes on the 01+, also because of the side curtain airbags. I'm a single dad and I like how safe I feel for my son in the es300. But again, it looks like it was made for senior citizens.

I had a 1999 GS400 and Just got a 2005 GS430. The GS430 is a tad quieter and smoother. The engine 4.3 engine is more refined. Same engine in the LS430 of course.

BTW
*** MAKE SURE ALL THE BODY PLUG ARE THERE** You will hear wind noise if a few are missing. My GS430 had 5 missing!! I pulled the service records and the previous owners complained about wind/road noise. It was checked several times.

Well a newer car is more likely to be quiet, rubber door seals are less likely to be deteriorated, but again it depends on the condition of the car too, as well as tires.

I don't have any wind noise in my '05.. i'm wondering what body plugs you are referring to?

See this Thread.

The rubber body plugs are very flimsy. Over time they fall out. I reinforced the ones that were still there by applying silicone adhesive around them. For the ones missing, I just used stick on aluminum flashing leftover from home repairs. You can get it from most home improvement stores. I cut some small squares and sealed the holes. The tar adhesive is very strong and should be permanent.

No real loud wind noise but I live in a windy place so I know it's there. The GS is a very loud car for tire roar. Lots of it. It is not going to give you an LS serene experience.

My 1996 Camry 2.2 was actually a quieter car in the city and even on the highway!

My '05 GS is almost as quiet as my '05 LS. It depends on the tire you use..

I had Toyo Versado's on the rear last summer. Pretty much new but you could hear them whine. And Bridgestones on the front, quite worn out. That's how I got the car.

Then over the winter I used Toyo Garrits (also came with the car). Really noisy all around.
