Bought a "salvage" auction GS...turned out surpising
So yea i bought this 99 GS300 from an auction and has 207k miles. Was hit int he rear...the rear needs some work, nothing crazy.. well to be honest i probably paid more than I should have (not saying) and I didn't do much research on it. Was like, eh it looks good and seems to run LOL.
well I went to pick up the car. Most car there are wrecked and salvage. I was expecting one of those big *** fork lifts to bring it. No, Instead they drove it out the lot. Checked it out. interior is insane condition. Driver seat looks near new. Engine idling and revving perfect. I was like, "cool".
Drove it 40 miles home, first time ever seeing it run. The car did well, AC is low as it comes on and cuts off, whatever easy fix.
OK.. Did some research considering I was bored.
The car is a ONE owner vehicle and local to be exact (same city as me in NC). The car had the original sticker, all manuals, and the Japanese manufacturing papers in it, lol.
So I looked up the VIN at Lexus Driver, or whatever that site is called. WOW, did not expect was I was about to read.
The car has only been serviced at the original Lexus Dealership it came from, its entire life!!!
I have records from mileage 2, to mileage 203k. EVERY SINGLE THING that is reccommeded by Lexus (which no one does) was done to this car. ALL fluids changed on time and frequent, filters, inspection, suspension, alignments, balancing, rotations, details.
Crazy...
Well I know some of you might find this boring or dumb, but I found it very exciting knowing that I can look at this cars history at any given point and PROVE exactly what has been done. 2nd timing belt and water pump was done at 184.
I'm pleased.

Looks like it needs more than a trunk lid.
New rear bumper and looks like the left quarter panel is bent too. Maybe it's the picture angle but is that left tail light bent inwards also?
Nice pickup nevertheless!

As long as it runs fine no need to rush, I've seen trunk lids on eBay fairly cheap before, bumper could be had at a junk yard or eBay as well, you gotta get those headlights cleaned up though!

thanks guys! yea, it does have some "chassis damage"... I know it'll never be perfect, but im going for "better". The car as it is drives fantastic. engine bay...well the entire car looks as if it only has 100k tops. Just as one above said, service history is worth extra mileage, and this car has 12 pages exact of history.

Maybe I missed it but where does it say it's salvage?
I'm wondering the responses from the ones who are underrating the damages.
That rear pic shows clearly that replaceable parts are atleast trunk lid, left quarter panel (unless it could be pulled back with robot) and a bumper.
And by the way the left tail light is bent inwards it looks like the whole rear end has been pushed inwards under the left tail light. So it may need some pulling too. Hopefully it isn't bent too bad.
OP could you confirm this or is it just the picture that makes it look that bad?
I had my left rear corner straightened when it had a dent just below the tail light and it cost me to fix (pulled with robot) and paint just that part ~$1000 and there wasn't even included new bumper and paintjob.
Not trying to scare you or anything but it's good to know that that's propably what you're facing if you have those problems what I mentioned.

^ Was gonna ask the same thing. What's giving it the salvage tag? From the looks of it and your description, I don't see how it obtained the salvage title. Am I missing something here?
