Default Repainting Roof Molding on GS400

Hello, the paint on my black onyx gs400 on these roof mouldings that run from the hood to the trunk is peeling in spots, revealing a chrome finish underneath. I have thought on taking them off and possibly refinishing them using some Duplicolor 202 or the like instead of spending $$ for new ones at the dealers. Does anyone know if they are held on by some type of clips or how to remove them? I saw an older thread with a diy but the pics were not available anymore.

I've seen some people polish them out to the chrome finish but I'm looking at more of a stock look. Also I've read the Duplicolor 202 is a pretty close match , has anyone else done this?

Thanks.

mine is starting to lift in some areas also... You could peel it off then reapply some gloss vinyl....

Mine did the sale ended up just tearing it all off, car is silver so you really can't tell unless it's night and there's a light. As you securing it they pop in and out, start at the front of the car

Mine are doing the same... i think i will remove them and Plasti-Dip them... that way it will protect them for one... and if a better option comes up i can just peel the Plasti dip off... check some of the stuff out at dipyourcar.com

Mines is doing the same thing but it is a lot worse than a lot of others I've seen. I will be repainting my whole car in a couple months, after i pull and roll some fenders. But it does pop right off. It is only held in by clips. Start from the trunk end of molding and pull. Don't need any tools, just your hands work fine. That's what I did.

Thanks for the tips about how to remove them. Never thought about plastidipping them...but really dont want them to peel in the first place, lol. I saw another thread where someone has bought new ones and within a year the paint had peeled again.

I was thinking more on the line of sanding them down, primer, duplicolor 202 then some clear to restore to a stock look. Just wondering if anyone has had good experience with Duplicolor spray.

Yes, they are a little tricky on the first try. You need to get a firm grip on it and pull straight up. Once they loosen up you work your way down the molding. I put blue tape around the edge of the fender and trunk just for precaution against a slip.

I'm returning from a cruise july 6th and will be passing thru PSL to visit my dad. If you need a hand let me know. I will be there for the whole day. Haven't seen you since like 06 or something at the venice meet lol.
