Default Air Filter and Struts Recommendation?

My air filter needs to be replaced, and before just getting a generic Toyota one from my local Toyota dealer, I figured I would check on here if anybody has any they recommend? I've heard K & N is really good, but not sure if they make one for our cars. Any other brands I should look into? I'm perfectly willing to spend quite a bit on one of those kind that are made to last longer as opposed to the cheaper ones that need replacing more often.

Secondly, my struts are bad, and also need to be replaced. Again, any specific kind I should be looking for or that you guys recommend?

BTW, my car is a 99 GS300 if that makes any difference. If these are dumb questions I apologize, I'm not really a car person...Thanks for reading!

Your best bet for those struts is to go KYB G2. They run about $130 a pair (last time I checked). Youd can get them brand new all over the internet. I did a drop in K&N in my last 2 GS's. It is a filter that you have to clean and oil every so often. I know a lot of guys here on the forum will tell you to stay away from an oiled filter, and stick with a dry one. I think as long as you don't over-do it with the oil, and clean your Mass Air Flow sensor every time you change your oil you'll be fine. I think I paid $60 for the filter from O'Reilly's.

I'll definitely check those out, thanks for the suggestions!

Anybody else have recommendations?

EDIT - I'm an idiot, and should have specified. By strut I mean the hood support, things that hold the hood open. Are those even called struts, or am I really just that bad with cars haha.

Ahhhh thoooose! I'm actually not sure if those are an item you can pick up aftermarket. I'm sure somebody has to have them. Check Rockauto.com. That's where I go for pretty much all my replacement parts.

for the air filter, I suggest you just get the generic or fram filter. This is a 20year old engine design that does not require rocket science or need more air over the design. I'm not sure what you are expecting from spending more money.

If you are wondering "Well, I want a way to spend more money on my car cause it makes me feel better", just replace the filter more often.

I just knew there were some filters out there like K & N that were made to be cleaned and not replaced but cost more, so was wondering what people thought of those. I'll probably just stick to the basic though and see what amazon or my local Toyota dealer has.

Thanks guys.

if you want to see what people think of k&n, just do a search and you can find the threads on them.

But you are trying to create a solution for which you don't have a problem.
