Traction and stability control is the same thing. Just use the VSC button

THIS!

I love these tires on my GS4. With the snow button turned on, this car can do just about anyting in the snow (6-8 inches) and its even OK on ice.

I prefer driving it in the snow more than our 4wd CR-V

Default Anyone here drive in snowy climate? Snow tire question'

Just wondering if anyone here lives in the northern states, I'm in Minnesota and last winter was pretty bad, I got my GS in January and got a set of blizzaks with it but didn't put them on since winter was halfway over anyway, this was my first time with a rwd car and it definitely took some getting used to. I never crashed besides lightly goin into a snowbank but got stuck more than once and was always nervous driving, question is how much of a difference do snow tires make? Will I be able to comfortably drive? Also do sand bags help much on top of that? Sorry these may sound like dumb questions I love my GS but I'm just dreading winter in a few months lol. Prev owner and friend with a miata both have told me blizzaks are night and day difference. Thank you!

car drives fine in snow. once you get momentum going, your still like every other car on the road, you still only have 4 tires to the ground. so long as you got a good set of snows, you stop and traction better. its only when you try to get going, you learn snow mode and easy on the throttle.

Minnesota? Just like many parts of Canada. You definitely need to make the investment in snow tires, preferably narrow 16" and even studded if possible.

Think of it as insurance against smashing your ride into a guardrail or running into a curb. The GS is RWD and puts out a lot of torque quickly. How you drive it makes a difference too. Don't be over confident that's for sure.

Default How does GS300 + Snow tires handle during Canadian Winters ?

Hi all,

I've finally found the GS300 (2nd gen) an will be picking-up the car up next Wednesday. Already test drove it, love it... I would like to get some opinions from Canadian members of this board that use their GS300's as a daily driver during winter season.

One of my coworkers own a BMW 5srs RWD, and really suggested against using GS300 RWD even with snow tires during the winter season.

Few questions.
1. Which winter tires you recommend ?
2. How does GS300 handle with snow tires during Canadian Winters ?
3. I live 100km north of Toronto, how does the car handle on Slopes/hills equipped with Winter tires ?

Thanks in advance!

The car has very good stability control.. I run bridgestone ws70 tires and i havent had any issues. Ive had a few times on an icy highway the backend slid out on me a but under my older ws70s.. But the tread was getting low on those. This year with the new ws70s.. I had no issues at all. Really reliable and comfortable car, especially with a car starter and other winter ready tools.

My friend used his JZS161 aristo 2jzgte all this winter (calgary) with zero problems, his only previous car was a busted old AE101 corolla. he didn't have any problems. i think you'll be totally fine as long as you have decent tires.

as for the steep slopes i'm not really sure, our whole city is pretty much completely flat lol.

Personally I thought the handling was s*** on snow and ice. Which is why I bought an RX. But if u really want to use your GS I recommend finding the softest compound possible like Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 or Hankook i'Pike W419 or something along those lines. Stay away from performace winter tires.

Agreed. They're not bad once you get going. Predictable, but not really an ideal winter vehicle. If you have the narrower 16" wheel/tire combo with dedicated winter Michelins or Bridgestones, it might work. For a Canadian winter you really need awd or four wheel drive.

Wide tires, rwd and lots of horsepower is never a good setup for ice and deep snow. Even BMW/Mercedes had to resort to offering awd on their sedans because of this. And of course we know that the next gen GS had to do it too.

I use mine as a daily driver all yr long, I live in Minnesota and our winters are pretty bad, but I've not gotten in an accident in the 2 winters I've owned it, I had regular tires on the first winter and slid around a lot, constantly feeling like I would spin out at any second even though I never did, this winter with blizzaks on I had no problems at all. Of course if it snows like a foot or more and the roads aren't plowed you aren't going anywhere

Thank you all for advises. I really appreciate them, seems like people that complain about snow and RWD are the ones that run All seasons tires.
Few winters ago I was driving up north on a BMW 330 the car was a rental, I think it had All seasons... the hill was 10 degrees steep, and the car wasn't moving.

Get a fresh set of blizzaks every 3 to 4 years and you are good to go....
