Default GS400 tranny vs GS430 tranny

So I have a gs430 and drove my girls 98 gs4 and noticed the tranny on the gs4 shifts much quicker from park or reverse into drive. With the gs430 everytime I shift to drive there is like a one to two second delay until it actually shifts. I'm pretty sure Lexus changed the tranny to make it more refined less sporty but wanted to see if everyone's was like this or is it just mine. Thanks CL

I have a 2002 GS300 and the transmission shifts quickly from reverse to drive. I'm pretty sure the transmission is the same for the 430/300.

They all use the same transmission, aside from some minor differences between the ones used on the I6 and V8. There are probably programming differences in the ECU that account for the different feel.

Isn't one drive by wire and the other something else?

The A650E transmission is used in every 2GS model. They're all the same.

I feel like you may be right. Since I read somewhere that Lexus purposely made the car less agressive and more luxury but I want to hear some other 430 owners say there's is the same because otherwise maybe something's wrong with mine?

Right.

But how ever, the vehicles with e-shift don't have any slight difference with the electricals? Always been wondering

It definitely has to be because the difference is like driving two different cars and Lexus did make it less sporty but why a delayed shift I think that's so dumb. Maybe to take away the lunging foward that happens in a cold start? I would love to find someone who has a gs430 that also hesitates so I know it's normal at least

Correct, just different ECUs. OP, reset your ECU and report back.

Actually.... The valve body between the gs400 and gs430 are different. Same trans physically, but the vb is completely different. The gs300 vb didn't have any changes throughout the years even with the introduction of e shift.

Interesting to know, although the valve bodies for the 400 and 430 share the same part number.

What exactly is a function of the valve body pardon my ignorance. And I have reset the ecu plenty of times in the past by disconnecting the battery a few hours but I will try it again and report back

Might be a mistake for the vb on the Toyota epc . But it's different for sure. Not just a little different, but pretty significantly.

The vb controls how the transmission shifts. How fast, smoothness, delay and such.

So would you say one is better than the other as far as being able to handle more power?

Aha that explains the difference. Thanks man. Just another part LEXUS changed like bastards to probably cut costs. Just like the exhaust manifold was downgraded to a cheaper part which went bad on me and never ever goes bad on a gs4 because of the design. And I confirmed this by looking on sewell and the prices and photos. I wonder what else they changed to save money or make the car less sporty. Damn them.
