Exclamation Speed Sensor

Now I know the ABS sensor is the same thing as the Speed Sensor. There are 4 of them located in the wheel wells. But, I'm wondering, is there a speed sensor in the rear by the differential. Wouldnt that be the sensor that controls the speedometer? The problem I have on my 02 GS is, I have VSC, VSC OFF, and ABS lights on the dash, the speedo is stuck at 0 and the Odometer is not incrementing. So wouldn't I just have to replace the speed sensor in the rear on the differential? Or is it the ABS sensor that controls that and needs to be replaced?

I don't know if this will help you and I don't know much about these cars but I do know that there is one on the transmission. A bad vehicle speed sensor took out my speedometer, made my abs act up and made the transmission to go in to limp mode. It is easy to see as it is in a little recessed area on the transmission of my 99 gs400.

I guess that might be the problem, Ill look into it and hook a scan tool to it.

Start by getting the Codes.. Go from there. Speedometer on Cluster may also be dead

Speedo ins't dead, the ODO isnt moving. The code means bad speed sensor, what im trying to figure out is, which speed sensor needs replacing.

Probably the ones one the transmission (I think there are 2). The one at each wheel are only used for ABS/traction control I believe.

Same thing my Automotive teacher told me. He said the speed sensor that controls the speedo needle, is the one on the trans, by the diff. Guess Ill get that replaced then!

The abs sensors are wheel speed sensor.now the sensor that your odo gets live reading from is in the trans and it is just called the speed sensor, not wheel speed sensor.i care to say you have two problems because my wheel speed sensor is out causing my abs vsc and vsc off light but my speedo obviously still works.your going to need a good scanner to know what sensor at which corner of the car is out (my cheap one doesn't tell me).but as far as the odo not working my bet is on SPEED SENSOR.hope this helps

The speed sensor is on the driver side of the transmission held on by a 10 mm bolt.

And the SPEED Sensor is the one on the trans, driver side. That has to do with the Speedo and Odo Reading. I have VSC, ABS, and VSC OFF lights on my dash to. I do have a snap on scanner that could probably tell me which all needs replacing, Ill have to run my lexus out to the shop and hook it up. So Im sure I need the Wheel Speed Sensor replaced, and even the Speed Sensor on the transmission. Jesus. :'(

So Since the speedo and ODO are not moving, to fix that is just replacing the vehicle speed sensor. There are two located on the transmission. One in the front, one in the rear. Which one needs to be replaced? That scan tool does not specify which one. I have a diagram that shows the veichle speed sensor, number 8 up at the top, not so sure if you can see it... Anyway, is that considered the one in the "front" of the transmission. They are both female connectors. Anyone might have some insight on that?? Before I go to replace anything, Ill try giving them a clean first, but if worst case scenario and they need to be replaced...

Here is the Diagram. Number 8 at the top is what Im asumming is the front. Then one in the back by the diff. My question is, which one needs to be replaced to get the ODO and Speedo moving again.
