Default The salesman was WRONG. Sub install/wpics!

Soo i was tired of my blown factory sub. & i went to my local audio shop. They had kicker comps on sale for 40$ i said why NOT. After arguing with the guy for about 10 mins he finally agreed to let me buy the sub without an amp. Yes no amp. He was telling me my factory amp was to weak and it would not have enough power to even move it. And i would be wasting my time if i left without one. Well i just put it in and it moves more then the guys mouth did. Im happy with it! )
And any tips on how to mount it?

How does it sound and does it hit harder than the OEM, before it was blown of course?

Thats stupid he would argue with you. You would think a sales a sale...Ive never heard of an audio shop refusing to sell you a component because you dont want an amp... ROFL

Ohhhhh yeahh.. It sounds alot louder. Not as clean but im guessing thats cause i havent bolted down the sub yet. And its litteraly being a free air sub. Once i get some foam around the sub and a sturdy plate to hold it i will throw everything back together. lol the plan is just a peice of mdf wood to hold it down, i will finish it by tonight.

Right! He wasnt refusing but he just would not get off the damn subject, i told him no at least 7 times and he just would not stop, saying factory amps only give 50 watts. The sub wont turn on. If it does u wont hear it. It wont move air. It will be underpowered. It seems to be moving just fine.

So it sounds good just sitting in the hole in the rear deck?

I agree with the salesman... while the sub "probably" sounds better due to your old sub being blown, you're severly underpowering it by feeding it "50W" (I don't know what the stock sub channel output is for the 2GS, but I doubt its much) as opposed to the 150~ or so RMS it's designed for. Then again, I'd never power any aftermarket stereo on our stock amp, but that's just me.

Hope it works out for you though.

When I replaced the ML sub in my LS430, I just used a very strong silicone to seal it. Sounded GREAT!!

You will probably fry your Amp soon.. Stock runs lower Ohms...

What happen to your $4k loan? im sure if you can spend $4k on wheels you can dish out for a decent audio upgrade

That is not an 8ohm speaker.

I run an 8ohm Kicker in the OEM location with a small 250 watt amp tucked in the trunk powering it. Sounds really nice. Kinda OEM+.

I mounted mine using a plywood flange adapter that I made. MDF may have been a better choice but I worked with what I had.

I'm running an aftermarket pioneer sub back their with a 1500w Phoenix Gold amp, I have the bass literally turned the whole way down and it still sounds great, nice speaker op, it looks good...

So heres some details and more of the finished pictures

instead of doing the mdf wood i thought since it fit so snug just sitting in there ( and worried about clearance issues.) i just drilled them in and used bolts to hold them in place, heres when i started

I noticed some rattle. So i got a razor and cut the old foam out of the ML and placed in under my kicker

No more rattle!

All done

And i dont remember where i saw it but i dont think my amp will fry cause i believe the speakers were rated at 300 watts for the ml. Or around there. The kicker peaks at 500. And if the amp can blow the ml i thibk it will handle the kicker just fine. When i turned the bass or music up too loud the amp would cut off and go into protect, since im guessing it could tell the ml was blown. Iv been blasting my kicker all day with the bass all the way up on my navi and it hasnt cut once. It sounds awsome and i feel like i really have a sub in my trunk will all the vibrations. Im happy with it so now im going to put my seats back in
