I would also add a tranny cooler......A lot of people here have and its cheap added insurance. I also was very happy going with Amsoil fluid..pricey but worth it...

Ah no filter that's interesting, so I'm guessing the oil has never been changed but trans performs really, really good. I'll try the drain and refill every thousand miles x 3. A tranny cooler will be added in the near future.

Ridiculous if it's anything like lexus screwed me, charged me 230$ for the flush, should have just bought the fluid and done it myself or had another shop do it, anything more than 100 is high

A flush is very different then drain and refill.if they charged you 230 I'm 99%sure that they hooked the machine up,put the system under pressure and flushed out ALL your old fluid.as opposed to what me and you can do at home which is drain and refill only about 4-5 quartstops.BIG DIFFERENCE.

Tranny cooler for our car isn't needed at all. If our trannies had a history of thermal breakdown like the q45 I came from, then it makes sense, but for our car it isn't needed at all. Amsoil is GREAT long life fluid, but once again not needed. I do a lot of drain and fills so I personally wouldn't leave fluid in long term.

The absolute most you will get from a drain and fill is 3qts out. You will never get 4 or 5 qts

So what I want is to change the oil and filter and the gasket. Get it all done and right with the oem oil as well. Toyota will the the place or??

i think our common is susceptible to bad timing at around 2nd gear
but that is mostly an ECU mapping problem noted in an TSIB from what i remember

unless you are turboing the 2JZ, no need to add trans cooler

im planning on using Motul Multi-ATF on my next tranny oil replacement

For those with high miles it's a nice precautionary measure I agree with you in theory.

I like doing a "big" drain and fill. Unplug the line from the transmission to the cooler and catch it all in a bucket add more transmission fluid and keep catching the fluid until it turns from brown to red. That's the safest and more effective drain and fill without the harm of any machine.

So, it would appear that most do not recommend flushing the transmission then? I have 167,770 Miles 270,000 KM's on the car and the dealer suggested I do a full flush $360 cnd after taxes and I sorta laughed over the phone. I have pondered doing it myself as it, but due to time I might just get another shop to do it for me. Any thoughts on how much ATF Toyota fluid to purchase (ATF Type T-IV)?

that flushing machine is different than just draining and filling it yourself

I did my tranny flush over Toyota dealership with the machine and new fluid for 150.00 reasonable considering labor . Fluid and guaranteed.

Friend and I did a drain and refill in about 45 minutes? Something like that. Only paid for the oil from the dealer. Did mine at 115k. Now at 150k
