Default Timing Belt install goes wrong 2JZ damaged

Long story short, my mechanic buddy snapped two valved while trying to set the timing.
He knew something went wrong, when he had me crank the motor over while installing the timing belt.
Anyone know where I can find a salvage head? in Los Angeles?
We are going to just replace the head and valves.
Yes, he is paying for the repairs.

2001 GS300 all stock.

When being cheap goes wrong....sad to hear this. LA has a ton of 2GS so you shouldn't have a problem finding one. Good luck.

Wow he must have had the timing off by a mile! The timing belt and cams have marks on them how did he manage to screw that up?

That's what happens when you don't pay attention /don't know what you are doing. These vvti motors are just like the Honda/Acura , it happened to me once and it was completely my fault.. forgot /wasn't paying attention but when i was done all the 32Valves where bent and this was 15th time doing it and never had any issues . It was too late when i realise what i did wrong.

I have a spare VVTi Cylinder head Pm me if you are interested.

Good luck with everything works out for you.

It's not about being cheap. It's more like lack of "know how". I did my timing belt myself. But I've did extensive research before getting elbow deep into it. That's why my job came out successful.

I'm sorry to hear about your head. The 2JZGE VVT-I is an interference motor.

Might as well do the swap now. Don't screw this engine up

well this isn't you . He didn't research and look to see how it was done. He didn't want to do the job himself. This is being cheap all day. Do you think his mechanic buddy is charging him the going rate for this service? I highly doubt it because if that was the case he would've taken it to someone who is very familiar with this job or a stealership. Look at what the OP said. Obviously he didn't care enough to confirm that his buddy knew how to work on this engine. Guy tried to save money so he took it to his buddy who destroyed his engine. Who will tell the person to crank the car while changing the timing? Just unfortunate. OP will learn a lot from this experience. Good luck.

This makes me cringe. I'm doing my belt this weekend, but I've been reading and researching for a few years now (no lie), plus Jeff's video, and I'll have the manual in hand. I'm prepared! Sorry to hear about your lose.
