[QUOTE=chicov8;8273732]i never drove any other gs but used to have ls and gs sterring is much much stiffer The GS is all way smooth and handles easy like silk.and i have a 430 so i think it may have the L-Tuned ECU,With that said i think im gonna to try to get a 400 ecu mayde that will feed more assist to the pump and rack another thing is im gone to change those factory clamps on all the ps hoses with the ones that screw

Must be a 98 GS right?

I greased my upper ball joints and it helped some (I use a 18 gauge grease needle) and it helped make mine a bit easier. Mine has always been on the stiff side. Mine is just over S/N 4000 in 1998 (my car made in 1997), so a pretty early GS4.

If you haven't greased the bottom ball joints, by all means do that too. Do them all while you are there.

I think it helped mine. I don't know if a LS PS ECU will work, but that one might boost the pressures for more assist too. My wife still thinks mine is too stiff, but her Buick is a bit on the overassisted side too.

I need to find the PS ECU and look at it, might be something to work with and modify....

I guess something we should characterize.

What is stiff?

Stiffer than a 1969 Ford Galaxy?
Stiffer than a 1987 Acura Legend? (most awful steering on the planet)

Or stiffer than a 1970 Mercury Cyclone with a 429 SCJ with manual steering?

How hard is it to make it too stiff?

Not that I recommend it because it is something much easier to get wrong than right, but the tension of the rack can be adjusted. It's possible at some point it was tightened to compensate for wear or a slight front end vibration.

The Legend, you have zero road feel, you can gently spin the steering wheel and it will spin to the other side and bounce back. It was awful.

The Galaxy similar.

The Cyclone, you needed to be Mr. Atlas to drive it. Stopped, you weren't turning the wheels....
