So my car has always burned a little oil, but is starting to leave little marks on the driveway, know my cam seals and valve cover gaskets need replacing, just wondering how difficult is replacing the VCGs on our GS, I'm not a mechanic or anything I do my brakes, done spark plugs on other cars, this doesn't seem like a very difficult thing to do and much better than giving lexus 500$, do you have to take much off to get to them and is there anyway I could screw something up doing it would be my Qs, thank you for any input and it's a 300 btw

The valve covers aren't that hard to do, although you do have to remove part of the intake manifold to do it. The cam seals are a bit more challenging (removing the timing belt, cam gears, etc), and if you're going to pay for those to be done the valve covers are going to have to come off anyway.

I also have to replace the VCG on my 99 GS300 as oil have been slipping out. Is it hard to remove intake manifold to get to the valve cover gasket? Anything else recommended that should be changed while at this job?

Im in the middle of doing my spark plug change now. In response to the OP (whether its VCG or cam seal, spark plugs, etc.) its not hard just time consuming. It becomes a "well while I'm in here" job. Doing the timing belt, have to do the water pump, oh while im here i'll change the cam seals, oh the VCG. Changing the spark plugs, might as well change the wires and coils, clean the TB, change the TB gasket. Just one thing after another.

Better to get it all done now and enjoy more driving time

Can anyone tell me where to put the RTV and also what the torque pattern is on this? Or is that not a huge deal?
