wtf just my luck..... 98 gs400 motor
Hi guys...... So I have a 1998 lexus gs 400.... love the car...... Was running perfect everything great. I parked the car. Next morning went to start and heard a loud pop n that's all she wrote. Took it to a mechanic n sure as shizz something in the lower end bent. pulled spark plugs and water and oil came pouring out. They cant turn the fly wheel in either direction at all....... If any one has a good motor for sale please text me at 352-428-0551. Also the car was imported from Canada...... So if I buy an American version of the 1 uzfe motor will I run into any issues??? If I can not find a motor at a decent price I guess I will b selling the car or parting it out. Please if help.... this has me completely disgusted........

+1 Unless it has close to 300k miles i dont know how it could happen. Iv beat on all my gs's with over 100k and over 200k and everytime i had a problem with an engine or transmission it turned out to be completely unrelated lol

Does the car have a block heater installed? It's very possible a previous owner ran this car in extremely cold conditions in Canada without plugging it in. That can have a significant effect on the motor's life.
Nothing worse than starting an unplugged car in -40. And if it had dino oil vs synthetic at the time, and it had a lot of cold starts....
From what I can see, the Canadian GS's had the same emissions certifications as the US ones.
I can't see Lexus modifying an engine specifically for such a small market. It's all or nothing so that would have meant California ULEV specs. In fact the emissions regulations are stricter in the US.
What does your owner's manual say under the emissions info. That's where the biggest difference would be.
