Default LSUGS430 Wreck

Hi all. I'm new to posting and I'm not sure if this is the proper place to put this, but I'll post anyway and hope for the best. I've been a member for quite a while but haven't been active until recently. I've taken to reading different threads and even buying parts from some of the members here. I've seen so many awesome vehicles here on Club Lexus and have been inspired by many of your, builds, pics and posts. My goal was to build my 2001 silver GS430 into a badass ride worthy of Club Lexus stature. I was on my way to start the process and until yesterday, had grand visions. What I experienced yesterday brought tears to mine eyes. My baby, Layla, had been in a Hydroplaning accident and is now going to be parted out. I've began the process of healing by assessing the damage, looking for a new GS430, and saying goodbye to a vehicle that had become my second skin. She'd been with me through thick and thin, never once letting me down.

I'm going to post before pics and after pics here. I'll keep this post open to show you what happens when I get a new GS and the different phases of the "build." Thanks for reading and I look forward to some of your suggestions and/or comments.

Just stay up, and be glad you're safe.

Hope you dont have to deal with icky bicky (icbc...insurance in bc canada) I had to fight to get my car written off and finally threatened to take it to a lexus dealership as the lexus mechanic said once the bolts are broken....its over.
They are offering me only 13,750. Im disputing that. It was a 2004 black on black mint condition GS430.

Unfortunately my dumb *** only had liability. My insurance payments for 3 Lexus's (my son's 1998 GS300 and my lady's 1999 GS400 and my 2001 GS430) is $387/mo!! That's just liability. I got in a little trouble several years ago. LOL!

I won't drive anything else! Well except for an '07 and up Yukon/Tahoe... I had one and they drove VERY smooth!

Does anyone know what stipulations there may be when swapping a 1998 GS400 motor for a 2002 GS430 motor? I would that even matter? If so, would I need to replace the tranny? I'm asking because I'm going to be parting out my '01 GS430 and I found a mint condition 1998 GS400 that I may buy. I'll also swap out my wooden steering wheel, or is that possible?

They're significantly different. I'm pretty sure the 430 is drive by wire and I know the 400 is drive by cable. You'd have to do wiring changes too. The GS400 evap emissions system is different than the 430 too (though it's mainly just plumbed differently).

The swap is very doable but, it's not a drop in. I could do it but, I don't know what you skill level is.

The transmissions are the same. A650E.

I'm swapping a GS400 motor into an IS300 so, this stuff is pretty close to home.

First, thanks for the reply. Secondly, my skill level is that of a noob! LOL!! I don't have too much time to dedicate to all of that. I'd most likely try and find someone local and knowledgeable in Lexus/Toyota vehicles. I'm a few minutes from Morgantown, West Virginia and about an hour and thirty minutes south of Pittsburgh. I'm hoping there's someone in this neck if the woods, as I'm from Louisiana and just work up here.

I wouldn't bother swapping the motor. Guy above me covered the issues. As for the steering wheel, you can swap it. Your gs430 has a dual stage airbag. The bomb on the back has 2 plugs. The gs400 has a single stage bag (one plug).

You will have to remove the single stage bomb off of your gs400 bag and put it on the gs430 bag. The 98-00 airbag bombs come in two sizes. A large 6 sided one and a smaller round one. You won't know which one you have until you take the bag off. The 6 sided one doesn't fit the gs430 bag. If the gs400 has a 6 sided one you can buy a rav4, celica, is300 bag and take the bomb off that. That's what I had to do.

I guess I was wondering about power and such and would it even be worth swapping engines. Also, before I go any further, your GS is SICK. Love the work you put into it. My next question would be; where about in Louisiana are you from? I'm from Shreveport and went to school at LSU before transferring to LSU-S

Also, I don't know if y'all have seen CL Member YaKuZa_GS's Lexus, but THAT'S where I'd like to be. The fenders are rolled and it looks as if he brought them out a little more, although I could be wrong.
