Default Trying make decision on replacing engine / tranny

Ive got a 2000 GS300 with 176k on it. Its my daily driver and the transmission is starting to slip and whine. I found a parts place in Atlanta (Shakti Auto Parts) that has the transmission for $350 but they also have the engine for $1,000. The engine/tranny they said is from Japan and has 34k on it. Im thinking about buying the whole unit for 1400. My engine is running fine but im going thru 3 to 4 quarts every 5000 miles so major work is on the horizon.

My main question is will a stock engine and transmission from japan bolt in with no problems etc????

I'd assume so, and I'd def buy that for $1400 haha. That's getting a whole new car!

But I gotta ask.. Why not do a GTE swap? You don't have to do any major boost, just keep it stock.

Be careful about the transmission, pre-2001 JDM models use a 4 speed auto with the 2JZGE.
