Gasket or Sealant for Water Pump to Engine
Hi.
I am prepping to do the timing belt change on my 98 GS300. It is sitting at 101k miles now and I have ordered the Aisin kit with the two pump halves already mated and the idler pulley, tensioner and belt and also new serpentine belt. My question is and I apologize if I did not search enough,,,,, aside from the one small gasket and the o ring that came with kit do I need anything else? Should I use sealant from Toyota to mate the pump to the block or do I only need that small 2 inch or so gasket and the o ring?
I think while I am waiting on the crank tool to come in I will go ahead and order a new thermostat and I guess that requires an o ring gasket as well. Other than obvious hoses, etc. is there anything else to consider while in there?
Thanks,
Rob

Thanks for the reply. I was going to deal with the cam seals on an "as needed" basis but if it doesn't require any other special tools I may as well go ahead with them. I was just looking at plugs on Amazon. They have the PK16TR11 Double Platinum for $7.55 each and I would not have to pay shipping.
I also need to replace the compressor soon as this one just starting making a rapid ticking noise when the car is at idle. It is not low on Freon and the noise is internal and not the clutch rapidly cycling. It still cools but I am noticing a drop off on how quick it starts to get cold and suspect the internal valve failure I read about on here. I figure I better swap it before it grenades and ruins other components. As it stands a new compressor and receiver dryer and refill and I would be golden. At least that is the plan.
Any idea on sealing the water pump to the block?
Thanks,
Rob

Do the cam seals while you are in there. Trust me. For gaskets, I live and die by the gasket sealants from Autozone. Gray or black, preferably the gray. They have never failed me.

Thanks. I have had good luck with the Autozone stuff in the past too but was unsure if like the Coolant I needed to go with Toyota brand. I will grab some of the grey stuff. I hope I can make this a weekend project. 1 day down would be ideal. Should be able to knock this and plugs out in one long Saturday I suppose.
