Default Aftermarket alternator recommendations

Wow.....I just got quoted $577 for a replacement alternator from the local Lexus dealer.

Anyone have any strong feelings about a particular brand of aftermarket alternators?

check out mechman.com

They have high output alternators and I've only heard good stuff about their product.

Thanks for the link -- this looks like an interesting company.

If I'm not running any aftermarket audio, do I need a high output alternator? Can someone confirm what the output of the factory alternator is?

Stock output is around 100 amps I think. You don't need a high output alternator, but it is good for peace of mind if you start to run more accessories. Drift Motion also sells high output versions for around $240. I've been using their 200 amp version for about a year on my Supra without any issues, and I plan to get one for my wife's GS too.

I didn't realize stock output was that low. Is there any advantage to a high-output alternator if you aren't running any more accessories?
