Default Speed sensor location

my 02 GS is throwing a po715 code which is Transmission/turbine circuit malfunction. Transmission has been shifting kinda funny and i hear that it is a sensor that is connected on or near the Tranny. Has anyone ever replaced thier Speed sensor before? is it fairly easy? Where is the exact location?

There are two on the trans, one near the bell housing the other near the driveshaft, both on the driver side. Single bolt and connector for each, They are magnetic so they pull right out, no gears or anything mechanical.

Here, forgot I had took this for someone a while back. You can see the two black vss sensors with the single mounting bolt.

You can pull them an check the resistance to see if they are the same.

Default Thanks!

Was looking for the #1 for about 30 minutes and finally came back to this forum and did a search for all posts about the tranny speed sensor. Just wanted to say thanks, 99 GS3, for the photo! Helped a lot. Unfortunately even after changing #1 speed sensor still have same issue. Guess I'll try to clean and re-install sensor #2 and see if that does anything. Sure ain't easy to get to #1, great design, Toyota!

According to this link, 12 ft lbs: http://www.justanswer.com/car/0p24w-...r-located.html

I just tightened as much as I could, maybe that's the issue? It's so difficult to get a wrench on it, socket was impossible. Let us know if you get it sorted out. I could get the O/D light to stop flashing but it's not going into overdrive. I only bought one sensor so I'm planning to take out #2, clean it and put it back again and see if that does anything cause I read somewhere that might could work.

Not sure if you're having the same issue as mine (O/D light flashing, not going into overdrive, cruise control not working) but found a solution on a Soarer forum that I'm going to try: http://www.supraforums.com/forum/sho...t-does-it-mean.

i do not have that issue. my issue is that my VCS/ABS/VCS OFF lights are on. I am sure its my front passenger speed sensor. I am unable to find the working DI to test and repair it. Does anyone know how to test the speed sensor with a multireader?

UNDER the car. What kind of issues are you having?

You may want to check out this thread....it was what was wrong with my vehicle, the sensors weren't the issue: [URL="https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-1st-and-2nd-gen-1990-2000/656360-all-my-crazy-lexus-issues-solved-ecu-leaking-capacitor.html"]https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-1st-and-2nd-gen-1990-2000/656360-all-my-crazy-lexus-issues-solved-ecu-leaking-capacitor.html[/URL

The speedo is feed by the wheel abs sensors, not the transmission sensors. The trans sensors are used for the ecu to control the automatic gear shifting.
