HELP! GS stuck in the street wont start?
I need help guys...I get home last night and my gas light is on, no big deal. this morning i go to start the gs and it wont start. acting like its just out of gas? Its getting energy i hear the starter doing its thing, so i figure my slanted drive way and low gas, must be out of gas. i fill it up to a 1/4 of a tank and try again, but it still will not start? its a 2000 gs400 with a 104k miles. any ideas what it could be? now i have the car stuck in the street half way and street cleaning is tomorrow. please help!

Depending on how hard/long you kept trying to start before adding fuel, it sounds like you ended up burning-out your fuel pump. Sad, but sounds like what happened to me in December 2010. The fuel pump depends on gas in the tank to keep cool, and if you keep trying to fire up without gas it's gonna be toast.
Good news is that the fuel pump is fairly easy to replace diy; it's under the backseat inside the car.

so anyone know of a good after market fuel pump they can suggest? the dealer is actiing really shady. first of all they want $250 for 2 hours of diagnosis. to me it should less then 1 hour, especially with an electric diagnosis. then i get a quote for the part at $627 for a fuel pump! i call another dealership the next town over and the price for a fuel pump is $427. im tempeted to have my car towed out of there. get a fuel pump and install it myself.

It might be slightly off topic...but it's a funny story. My brothers GS300 was doing fine wneh he was on his way to work, than all the sudden, it started idling awfully and then cut out on him. Luckily, he was on a 35 MPH street so he just pulled into a gas station and called us. We bring it to Pep-Boys, (not the greatest, I know..), and they diagnose it as a fuel pump. They replace the fuel pump. Doesn't start AT ALL. There was absolutely nothing! Then, Pep-Boys gave it in to a closer look, and the problem was a failed gas gauge. We ran it out of gas...! The meter read a quarter of a tank, when it was really empty. I know it might be a slight chance that it might be the gas gauge, but the chances are still there...

gas
not the gas gauge b/c i filled it with gas i had at home to 1/4 a tank and the gauge went up. it just gets me how the price can be so much higher for the part. and 2 hours to diagnosis a failed fuel pump.
