Question Another wheel fitment question 2gs / +43

Looking to get a 2GS and AME Shallen AX wheels in 18x8.5 +43, 18x9.5 +43 because they are insanely cheap for me used so I don't want to pass up really. And probably use 245/40-45 Going by this thread:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=311637

I guess my size of wheel would be considered "agressive" if I am correct? I do plan to drop it with probably just springs for a 1" drop since I hate the ride comfort of coilovers and can't spend a ton on air suspension either. Thanks

Can you please explain why you "hate the ride comfort of coilovers." I'd love to hear your reason behind this. Also what coilovers have you experienced? And at what height?

Those sizes are NOT aggressive. It would make great stock wheels though.

That size and offset it definitely not aggressive and fits fine without any fender modifications. With that being said I recommend

235/40R18 front and 265/35R18 rear
or
245/40R18 front and 275/35R18 Rear

I don't like how stiff they can be overall and the various heights I've tried over the years from lowered a couple inches to near stock height. I just want a smooth comfortable ride is all so struts and springs are fine by me and have been on my previous daily drivers. I realize how they can definently improve depending on what brand/model you have. I'm just not looking to do the trial and error routine with coilovers though. Experience I have with coilovers is from having them on my GC8 & GDB STi's over the years.

Forgive me for the silly question but I've dealt with only AWD Imprezas for the past 8yrs so I'm used to having the wheels and tires being the exact same size. So with that being said any reason why I couldn't have the tires all be 245/255-40or45 all around? I assume I could and it would be just fine unless this is purely for asthetics. I don't understand the need to change the side wall size since I won't be trying to go for crazy camber or incredibly slammed by any means just an inch or two drop at most.

When you're offsets more than 40, it's damn near stock. Except with the wheels you're purchasing, your rear wheels 1 inch wider. The wheel offsets and a 1 inch drop is perfect for your taste without any modification from what you have originally posted. "Might" get the rubbers rubbing here and there but nothing major. Everybody starts somewhere.. Sti and lexus have different weight set so if the coilovers left a bad taste in your mouth, so be it. I can honestly tell you people here on this forum has switched from springs to coilovers and love the ride feel and would never go back. Its 2 different categories of cars. And I will guarantee you, you will have a change of mind after this initial setup. Just saying. But it's your car. We're here to give you options.

Yes, but its not an Impreza or AWD so thats all out the window Our cars are RWD and the wheels you're looking at are staggered. So why would you buy staggered wheels and not stagger the tires? It wouldnt make much sense. Sure you can use the same size tire front and back but it would look silly. 235/40 (25.4" OD) and 265/35 (25.3" OD) have the same sidewall height and if you want a bit beefier setup you can go 245/40 (25.7" OD) and 275/35 (25.6" OD) which also have the same sidewall height. This has nothing to do with slamming the car or crazy camber or anything. This is the correct appropriate tire size for your vehicle based of the size and offset of the wheels you've chosen. Take my word for it, I do this for a living. I live, breathe, eat and sleep this stuff.

If you are insistent on doing a 45 series then do 225/45 (26.0" OD) front and 255/40 (26.0" OD) rear which have the same height sidewall but there will be a minor stretch.

Between the 3 combinations I recommend the 245/40 and 275/35 combo and they are the widest and most appropriate for the width wheels you have chosen.

Now to those who are saying these are weak size and offsets. All that means is that they are not super hella flush, mad camber, rolled fenders, super stretch jdm tyte yo. Pay no attention to that. The wheels you've chosen are a great fit for those on springs and don't want to do fender modifications or want to stretch tires.

You could also use a front and rear SS kit to lower your car without sacrificing the ride.

If you do decide on lowering springs, something like Tanabe NF210s are want you want. A mild drop but still retains a lot of the ride comfort.
