Default Has anyone had an ignitor fail?

2002 GS300 and it is either the ignitor or fuel pump going. There are times it is cranking but not starting. Happening more frequently now.

I just did both valve cover gaskets yesterday along with starter and alternator contact replacements. Car cranked fine 7or 8 times then it sat about 30 minutes and had trouble starting. Took 4 attempts and it started fine. Ran it with no issues rest of the day. This problem happens infrequently and usually within 30 minutes of it being run. Never an issue first start of the day. I'm still leaning fuel pump or ignitor. Do not think it is the spare key transponder. I may pick up a spare ignitor off ebay or car-parts. They can be had for less than $100 and wouldn't be bad to have a spare to use for testing. Both concerns are easy repairs and I may just go ahead and do them both and see what happens. Car is almost at 120k miles.

its not the coil pack only one out wouldn't cause the car not to start i lean more towards the fuel pump overheating maybe the filter is clogged causing the pump to work too hard they say the filter is a lifetime unit but that is bs i would try a new fuel filter cheaper as well also check make sure you don't have any fuel leaks while the car is running could be loosing fuel pressure.

Great idea Tom, I may just replace that sock filter first and see what happens.

when you replace fuel pump, check for any rust in the tank or on the fuel pump itself. if the pump doesn't fix it AND you see a rust, take pictures and post.
