Big Oil Filter (FL1A or Wix 51515)
Has anyone looked at installing the big Ford FL1A (used on nearly all of Toyotas from years past) on the 1UZ-FE V8? It looks like it might fit.
I searched all over, no mention of anyone trying.
The longer filter than we have stock is the Wix 51516 (Motorcraft FL400). The big filter is the Wix 51515, which is a Motorcraft FL1A.
Thanks!

Looking at the specs from Wix's website, the stock filter, has a finer filtration than the longer 51516 and fatter/longer 51515.
So stock filter might still be the best yet at keeping dirt trapped.
I wonder if all filters are made to same specs?

Looking at this filter as a possibility of a great filter.
dual flow, bypass AND full flow, one package.

ok, this might be a dumb question, but why would you want to look for an alternative to the recommended factory oil filter that was made specifically for this motor? maybe its just me but if I bought a Ford oil filter i'd use it on a Ford, not a Lexus.

Toyota has used the big filter for a very long time. It isn't a Ford only filter. Most people who have ever had a Ford know it well.
Look on here at the people who run the longer filter on a Toyota or Lexus. This is the common filter on Fords still yet today.
I did find though according to Wix the filtration on the stock filter is better than the fatter or longer filter.... Stock is still best for this application at least from wix. But a larger element has less pressure drop across the filter and on cold start less chance the filter's bypass valve will open. Bigger has more advantages over smaller.
Often oems design with cost in mind, one filters vs 2 drives manufacturing costs down and reduces chances of manufacturing error.
