Just to clarify, you're asking if it's safe to use paint remover on the door so you are able to reveal the "chrome" under the base paint of your car, correct?

I personally don't think there's chrome under that, but there is metal, and polished metal is similar to chrome. I don't think anyone else is down to strip the paint off their door too.

My paint is has a chip on the door pillar area and it's metal. U can use metal polish on it if u want to do it that way.. Might look funky if u do the whole top of the door

Instead of causing such a headache and stripping the pillar, just spend some money and get some off eBay if you want minumum spending.

Remove them from the door first, theres a possibility its not painted on, but plastic shrunk on to the metal like the running trim that is over the sides of the roof (from windshield to rear window) if so, you can just pull it off as to not harm the CLEAN metal behind. I'd recommend clear coating them though.
