P1349 Code - VVT System Malfunction
Car runs just fine on the freeway, but is idling rough (sometimes dies) when stopped. Pulled a P1349 code. Mechanic says the OCR filter is clean, there is no sludge, and the solenoid is operating smoothly. He said that the intake VVT cam gear (which I assume from searching CL refers to the VVT controller assembly) is stuck in the up position and needs to be replaced. A few questions:
1) Is the VVT cam gear the VVT controller assembly?
2) How do you replace the VVT controller assembly?
3) Based on the symptoms I described, does the mechanics diagnosis seem correct?
Thanks in advanced.

That's true. I was just going off what he was telling me.
Does anyone know another name for the VVT cam gear? Or even better, how to replace it? I looked at the factory diagrams and don't see it.

Something's not adding up because according to some of the other threads I found, the things that need replacing with a P1349 code are:
1.Valve timing
2.OCV
3. VVT controller assembly
4.ECM
As far as I can tell the camshaft is not on this list. Unless the VVT controller assembly is the camshaft/cam gear. Can someone clarify what the VVT controller assembly is?

Ok, so then the mechanic is saying that the camshaft needs replacing?

If you can change a timing belt without thinking about it, then a cam gear is no problem.
