My summer trip in my GS4
I just wanted to share my mileage data on my summer trip, 8/25-8/31.
I started in Seattle --> San Jose --> Los Angeles --> Las Vegas --> Seattle
I used cruise control about 90% of the time. Only city driving was about a quarter tank in the sweltering heat of Las Vegas, ambient temp about 105 F. In that heat with the AC on, city driving, man this car is a PIG (I hate our tranny, who doesn't?).
I did a similar drive from Seattle --> San Diego --> San Jose --> Seattle in 2009, but on 20's. However I did not keep track of the mileage then.
Only difference this time is that I am on stock 17's, and the spark plugs were replaced within the past 6 months (along with TB and MAF cleaning). Oh and I have yet to wash my car this summer. Maybe a clean car would have netted me another MPG or two? BUT I am religious when it comes to maintenance. Fresh tranny fluid and coolant right before leaving.
The tripmeter on my car versus the GPS mileage is right on, with only about .1-.2 difference through a whole tank of gas.
Ok enough of the BS, here's my results (According to pump readouts):
Total miles: 2633
Highest MPG: 27.77
Lowest MPG: 23.54 (Vegas)
AVG MPG: 25.98
Highest Gas Price: $4.359 (San Jose)
Lowest Gas Price: $3.919 (Vegas)
Total fuel cost: $422.36
Cost per mile: $0.16
Now with 145k miles on odometer.
I believe this car can hit 500 miles on a tank if you have the ***** to get it close to E (Maybe under better than ideal conditions). The highest trip i got was 419 miles with 3.5 gallons still in there.
I'd like to add that I live 10 minutes from work and I normally get 17-19 MPG.
I still LOVE this car years later, and I think it's still perfect for long trips.
Passing people still effortless on this 13 y/o car..
GS400 FTW

I agree, this is the best car I've owned so far. I bought my First(now I say first because I want another ;]) a little over a month ago and I've made trips from San Diego to San Jose, ca and was keeping track of MPG. I was half tank at roughly 240 miles then arrived to San Jose with roughly half tank. So I believe the GS400 could possibly hit 500 miles on a tank I gas.

I just did a trip for el paso to California and back. 2700 miles total. When I go 80 on the highway I averaged 23.4 when I whent 73 I averaged 24.5. I went down highway 1 from Monterey to San Luis obispo. Great drive, this is one highway you will use the manual shift buttons all the time, my car handles great.

Impressive fuel economy numbers, and sounds like a great trip. I'm getting 21-22 mpg cruising at 85-90 mph. I wish Lexus had put a really tall 6th gear in these cars. +1 on the passing power.
