Default Surging on cold start then 3000RPM Idle

EDIT

This was orginally about finding the crankshaft posistion sensor, which 99 GS3 was helpful with. My issue now is that when the car cold starts it surges from 1k to 3k until it warms up, at which it will idle at 3000RPM. If I remove the Throttle Control Motor, the car will have a nice idle at 1k but there is no pedal feel which I understand is normal when the motor is disconnected.

At this point I am trying to figure out as to what is causing the motor to idle at 3000RPM.

I have tried two different throttle body's. Both with the TPS adjusted to .654 VDC.
EDIT

Hey All,

Would anyone be able to help me with a picture of where the crankshaft position sensor is? Or at-least explain where it is. I tried looking at images from Sewell and from Alldata but can't seem to figure out.

Thanks

02 IS300 Motor if it makes a difference.

it's on the passenger side down low by the, well, um, crankshaft

follow the wire, it's tough to see. near the alternator, by the belt tensioner, at the oil pump, behind the crank pulley.

if it's dead or unhooked car will crank but not start. what's the problem your having?

First I want to say thanks for taking the time to reply.

I been having a p1349 issue for some time. Rough idle and all. I was going to check the crankshaft sensor to rule anything out.

I just adjusted the tps (was at .8xxx, adjusted to .654) and the rough idle disappeared. But now it seems with the IACV disconnected car idles like a kitten. With it connected it idles around 3k. Any ideas?

Thanks again.

The second gen GS doesn't have an IACV, can you specify what you were actually unhooking? Maybe the throttle motor or pedal position sensor?

Checking/replacing the pcv valve is always worth doing when having any erratic idle issues as it could be stuck open, and they are only like $3..

And I snapped a quick pic of a 2J I had sitting in the garage to show you up close where the crank sensor is just for reference. It's extremely difficult to see when in the car with everything installed over top of it.

A toyota 1349 is generally a vvti solenoid that just clogged and needs a new filter. Have you checked this out, again it's like a $5 filter and easy to remove.

Yea I def. Would have not found it. Thanks.

By IACV I do mean the throttle motor. The piece right next to the tps sensor.

On my motor there are two PCV valves. One on the driver side goes into the throttle body the other into the intake. Ive tested them per alldata and they seem fine. I'll go out and buy two tomorrow anyway lol.

But yea when I disconnect the throttle motor the car idles completely fine at 1k, except for there being no throttle response until the gas is 50% pressed. Which I know is normal. But when connected I have a high idle of 3k.

Your code is not related to the CKP but the OCV. I found this on google. http://madstyle1972.com/Repair/05/200o8c05/cip1349.pdf

Thanks. Ive run through the trouble shooting procedure and was about to get my vvti gear checked out. But then I adjusted the tps to the correct voltage and t the car idles fine now. When I say fine I mean its not rough and lumpy like it was.

At this point it idles at 3k with the throttle motor connect and 1k with it disconnected.

The fsm says that computer can throw the code if it find something in the system and catches it. So I'm going to change out the fuel filter ( planned maintenance), replace oil and plugs this weekend. I'll have the battery disconnected before I start and see if the ecu resets afterwards.

I just find it weird for it to be idiling at 3k.

I need to replace my camshaft position sensor on my 2001 lexus Es300 due to a engine light reading but i can't locate where its at. I tried looking for pics and videos but couldn't find the right pic or video. Any clue where its at or have a pic of the right year?
