Rust doesn't look too bad, but again, I would have a body shop check it out for you. They would probably remove the bumper and peek at what's underneath as well.

Rust doen't look too bad but like it's been said. Have a body shop look at it and they can give you a repair estimate and you may be able to get the seller to knock of a portion of that cost off the price.

So, is it safe to say this car will go up to 500,000 KM on original motor and transmission with regular maintenance...?

Yes. My wife's 98 Toyota 4 runner has 307000 miles and has had not major problems. Toyota builds their engines to last.

The 1UZ engine is one of Toyota's most reliable engines ever built. I'd be more worried about people hitting me and writing my car off than wondering if my car will make it to 500k. I've had 2 built up cars, and both were written off due to other people's careless driving, long before their time

There was an 01 GS300 with <130k for sale in Gatineau the other week. Rare color combo too [forget the name] but he was asking 10k

Browse Kijiji and Good luck!

I personally wouldn't pay more than 5k for any pre-01 GS... A buddy bought one three years ago [400] with 300k [kilometers] for 3,000$ cash... still drives it short of 400k now.

At 4k you've got a pretty good deal now! I think once you've got the minor issues fixed that you don't like you'll be around the 6k mark and well within your budget. Pre-congratulations ..

Not getting this. You ditched on a car with 95,000 for one with 247,000?
That first car was a chance to buy a nearly new (in Lexus-land) car for under $10K (these were $60K new in Canada) and now you're looking at a rehab project with 3X the mileage?
Hmmmmmmmmmm. Three years ago I paid $15K for my GS400 and still feel like I got a deal. After all, for that same money I could have gotten a used Civic.

$4000 for this car is a excellent deal. Don't be afraid of the mileage. Especially if you have the records to show it was dealer maintained. This is not a REHAB project. There are some maintenance things you have to take care of and one rust spot. If you only get 2 - 3 years use out of this car, it'll be more than worth it.

Ok, had a look at the ad, it does look pretty good. For long-term ownership the first car was the better choice, but for shorter-term and modifying, then I concede this cars is a good choice.

Thumbs up

I waited 3 years for a black gs400 here in quebec for a good price. At 4k you will be very very happy with this car.

Do it.
