Default tick noise help please!

hey guys, new to the forum and glad to be here. I have a 2000 gs400 and lately have been hearing a tick tick tick tick noise while driving, and the ticking gets faster as the car does. the noise goes away completely when the brake is pressed. any ideas? thanks in advance!

thanks for the reply, the noise doesn't go away when i let go of the gas, only when i press the brake. can it still be an exhaust leak? i forgot to mention that one of the pistons in one of the calipers is seized inward. also, braking at high speeds makes the car shake like warped rotors, but the rotors look fine, i just changed them about a year and a half ago.

When I got my brakes serviced, the mechanic forgot to reinstall the anti-rattle clips that go on the calipers. I was stuck w/ the same ticking noise you described for a week. Drove me crazy! Once I got those clips back in there, the noise disappeared. Hopes this helps.

If the clicking goes away when braking it's likely you are missing or have worn out hardware for the pads.

If you have a seized caliper you should replace that asap as only one pad is doing the braking. This will cause that pad to wear 2x faster and ruin the rotor when it wears down to the steel backing plate. There will likely be no warning.

Replace/rebuild the caliper, replace both rotors, all 4 pads, and get new pad hardware. Be sure to clean and regrease the caliper slides. Make sure they slide in and out nice and easy. Grease all contact points between the pads and the torque plate. This solves many noise issues.

You'll be fine after this.

Of course, this is my best advice without inspecting your car. Have that done first to verify.
