I'm looking to get back into a GS, I've been looking around at both GS
300's and 430's. With the price of gas being what is right now gas mileage is a concern, my commute is 6 miles to work and about 10 on the way back (gym after work).

I wanted to hear from both GS300 and GS430 owners on what type of gas mileage your getting. This will be about 90% city and the other will be on the weekends. What ever advice for the CL community would be appriciated.

If you are really tight for gas and your main concern on purchasing a car is Gas mileage, then get a 02 and up 4cyl car, most of them have phenomenal gas mileage.

As far as the GS they are all pretty much even, SEARCH is your friend as this has been covered.

The difference in gas milage is not a deal breaker for me, as what I drive now I average around 17-19 city. Yes the "search function" is your friend, and I did prior to posting, hence my title of the post being "Who has owned both a GS300 & GS400/430" I would like to hear from any members who have had the opportunity of maybe owning both a GS300 and GS400/430 and what they found/feedback when comparing both.

I also understand the the GS is rated for "premium" gas, I would also like to know if any members had a negative feedback by feeding there GS regular gas?

When I had my GS300, the gas mileage wasn't too bad for the car with an I6 and weighing so much but then again it wasn't great. Now that I'm driving a 1999 Honda Prelude as a daily, the GS seemed liked it took tons of gas. Overall, I could drive about a week and put 100 miles on only using about 1/4 tank hard driving on the GS. You won't regret buying one, but if gas mileage is a concern you may have to rethink about what car you want to buy. Hope that helps.

BTW, the prelude only uses about half the gas of what the GS used with a little 4 banger. It has pretty good pick up and also gets a lotta looks. At least mine does being murdered out a d all.

Right!! The prelude still gets up and goes and I don't have to worry about looking at the gas needle go down lol

For me it would be a no brainer. I have had the GS300 and now the GS430. I think about all the other money I waste on other things and the little that I would save on gas does not seem relevant. I would go with the 430 and the performance that you get. I thought the 300 had some get up and go but since driving my newly acquired 430, I would not go back. I drive about the same for work...8 miles in and 8 back.

i recently bough a 430 coming from a 300.... i love the way the 430 saves on gas.i went 320 miles on he 430 with half highway ang half city... as in the 300 i barely break 300. keep in mine,, i have a heavy foot. get a v8 bro,, you wont regret it.

I've had a 01 GS430 (crashed) and currently a 98 GS4. They get about the same mileage, HIGHLY dependent on how you drive it. Conservatively driven you should get around 19 or 20 mpg on the V8, mixed highway and city.

For my two cents, don't get a GS300 as the mileage is almost the same as the V8, and it lacks the violent power.. sometimes a passenger might have the nerve to call your GS a grandpa's car. Just mash the pedal unexpectedly and embarrass them every time! But you can only do this with the V8 unless you have a turbo GS3.

Also, might just be my experience, but my GS400 has a smoother shifting transmission and more direct throttle response compared to the 430. I think others have noticed this too.

i have a gs400 ,i only drive 5-10 minute to work, 100% city with heavy traffic, i only get 11.5mpg with intake and 12-13 with stock airbox

I had a Prelude for a couple of years. The Prelude averaged 24mpg, whereas the GS does 22mpg. so the difference is quite small and I really prefer the midrange torque and sound of the I6.

That sounds like a very low number, can any other GS400/430 owners confirm that this a low mpg.

What I'm driving now has 3.5L 270hp Toyota V6, and I'm just about the same mpg as my old 01 GS300, so I think that a GS400/430 would not be that far off from where I'm now in regards to mpg. I'm ranging now around 17-18 city, 25-27 hwy

I can confirm getting 10 -12 MPG with my GS400 but this is driving in new york city we're talking about here.
