Hey Pushi! Guess what happened to me today? Look familiar?

Came off while I was doing 75 on the freeway. This sucks. But at least I know where my minor leak was coming from.🙄

That must have been explosive and scary.
Those are press fit and I have had to reinstall a couple. I used red thread-lock when reinstalling.

Thanks for sharing...

Well, it was more like I was kind of expecting it. This is on my SC430. But since I also own a 2nd Gen GS 430 it's a 430 and doesn't matter whether it is an LS, GS or SC to me. But Pushi and I had been talking about Knock Sensor replacement on the SC forum because I just went through that, and the thread kind of rolled into the cross-over leaking on his car that I noticed from one of his pics he was kind enough to submit.

So anyway, I knew I had a minor leak. So minor in fact that I couldn't find it. Of course i didn't think to look behind the Intake. I had just been in there. I just figured it would make itself known sooner or later.

So there I am, driving along, Top down enjoying a beautiful day and I caught a wiff of coolant. Kept driving because I knew I had a coolant leak but was looking at the temperature gauge like an eagle. i didn't get a mile down the road before a puff of coolant steam came into the car from under the dash on the passengers side. I wasn't sure for a split second if I had seen what I thought I had seen but then the needle moved just the tiniest bit and all hell broke loose! I IMMEDIATELY pulled to the inside shoulder of the freeway and turned the car off. Nothing else to do to control the situation.

I opened the hood and the steam was thickest at the rear of the engine compartment/firewall. It took a couple of minutes to clear and I got some rags to start wiping things down to see what went. Because of Pushi's issue, that was the first place i looked and sure enough. The pipe was completely popped out at the cross-over. It's only press fit in there anyway and I guess it just finally said enough is enough. But, since it is press fit, I am looking at a JB Weld fix since I don't really want to pull the intake again. Removing the intake isn't really a hard job. Just a serious pain. To many ways to break a connector body etc. And I think JB Weld will work just fine after seeing Pushi's apart. Clean the pipe, clean the cross-over somehow and glue it back together. But it doesn't have threads so??? If it doesn't hold, I'll know exactly what to keep an eye on and pull the Intake Manifold again. LOL.

JB weld can get messy, use just a smear.
They do make press fit retaining compound of different flavors that you may try.
Either way no need to remove the intake.

Press fit retaining compound? I have never heard of such an animal. Time to warm up the search engine! Thanks.

Just ordered the Permatex 64000 High Temp Sleeve Retainer. It just might be what the doctor ordered.

You can go over to the SC Forum and see what I hope is my last write up on the repair using the Permatex. Looks good. No leaks and I have to thank Frank T and this forum because I was planning on using JB Weld. I think the Permatex fix was the right call.
