Unhappy car won't start!* :(

Hi guys, I have a '01 GS 300, and my fiance' has been trying to get it running for the past 4 days. He replaced all the spark plugs, and there ended up being oil on some of them, so since there was a leak, he replaced the valve cover gasket. Then he changed all 3 ignition coils, and even the fuel pump. It's now 2 am and its still not working. It would crank, but then a loud cough and then it just dies. There's also an annoying electrical humming noise coming from under the hood when the key is still in the ignition . What should we do?

ive had this car for not even 2 months and was bought from a private seller who claimed he had changed the timing belt himself and some other things; i suppose the basics. We're kind of dismissing the timing belt issue ONLY because it seems like the car is just not getting any gas, but could I ask why would the timing belt might be the problem? .. The car will fire back up when starter fluid is being sprayed into the intake, but as soon as he stops spraying, the car dies back down. Could the fuel pressure be low?

Yes thats definitely i fuel delivery problem. I would check the fuses for the EFI, fuel pump and the fuel pump relay. I all checks good, your fuel pump not working. I would check for wire integrity problem on the fuel pump first before replacing it.

if just one coil did not get connected all the way, it will not allow any of the coils to fire. had this problem on my 99 GS. bought the car kid said he replaced the plugs and checked the coils and one wasnt all the way connected. was attached but not clicked on all the way. plugged in and voila engine started right up! Good Luck

Check the fuel pump controller; back inside the trunk.

Its got a plug, pull it out and turn the car to on pos -- if you have a multimeter, use it if not just get a test light. Try to see if you're getting power on the harness side or ecu side (cant remember) but there are two specific wires in the plug you need to check they're next to each other once you get connection and it lights up then plug it back up and use the tester/multimeter to test the wires itself when the plug is connected back up to the fuel pump controller. When you crank you should see one of the connector wires light up and then shut off when you crank it. If you still can't get it to start thats your problem.

The coil issue above my post is untrue. I've started my car before with 1 coil unplugged completely when diagnosing a spark plug issue.

does the security light flash when cranking if it does it could be the EFI fuse or Main relay.

Disregard justablckv8! That can happen. Don't know why he would even wanna say that Its untrue when it happened to me. My #1 coil connector clip broke and it came the slightest unplugged and car would only crank, and security light blinked. Found connector loose and pushed it all the way on and engine fired up. Unplugged just to verify and guess what justablackv8?? It wouldn't start. Plugged back in and zip tied it, and haven't had a problem since. Gl on fixing your problem!

I don't know why you guys are arguing about the damn coils. It's a fuel related issue. If it starts while spraying starter fluid into the throttle body, then it isn't getting fuel.
