Looking at a GS400 tomorrow
Hey guys, I'm looking at a 99 GS400 tomorrow and wanted to know if there was anything I needed to know before I bought a GS since I have no knowledge about them. For example, should I get a 2000-05 gs instead for any reason?
And also, i plan on installing hid's, bigger brakes, and a sound system so anything related to those mods would also help.
thanks

any specific reasons? I read on wikipedia that the 430's had more torque, different headlights/taillights, hids standard, more wood trim intrerior.
but one reason why i'm looking at this GS400 is because its in spectram mica blue which is the color im looking for

How much and How many miles. I just bought my 99 gs4 with 127k for 5grand with complete lexus dealer service records. Its a clean *** car. All you really need for these is a intake and thats it. Tq convertor does wonders for these also.
keep it clean and dont ghetto it out. These are really nice cars and really don't need much to them.
Make sure to check for all the obvious things. Check under the trunk carpet for rust and make sure the timing belt was done sub-100k.
Check the trans fluid for color and smell along with motor and trans mounts ( vibrations )

The front suspension will make you wonder why you bought this car, everything else will tell you why you bought this car.
I have GS400 and love it, although if the 430's extra torque is noticeable I'd defer to the 430 guys and get a 430.

One thing that I didn't like ab the car was the gap from the front door to the fender on one side was wider than the other but the carfax said the car was never in an accident....what do you guys think?

11,000 seems kinda high, has it had a timing belt service done? The gap probably means that it has been hit without being claimed on insurance or police report. Like wife backs out of driveway smashes fender, fix is only a little more than the deductible. all that said, if you have to have a blue one well get out your wallet and squint when you look at the door/fender......
in my opinion the 400 is better, you can get the torque of the 430 with a couple of mods: intake, exhaust...the perforated seats in a 430 tear up faster, and major replacement parts are more for a 430. a 4.3 motor will cost over twice as much as a 4.0.
