Default Tire question....

I have a set of 20x8.5 niche games rims i planning on puttin on the gs430.... as of right now i have 225/35/20 toyo proxes4's on the rims... i am looking t run the 225/35's on the front but want to go a little wider in hte rear . i was thinking 245/35 .. would thisa be a good choice don't want the tires to look to beefy yet give me a little room to hit bumps nd not wreck the rims.... anyone have any picks of 245/35 on on 8.5 inch rim so i can get an idea if i should go with the 245's or 255's.... thanks

first of all the 245/35r20 will be narrower than the 255/35r20. secondly, the offset of the wheels will also have a role in whether or not the tires will rub. i am currently running a 255/35r20 in the front and have minor rubbing, but that is due to my fender liner hanging slightly. in the rear i have a 285/30r20 and i have no rubbing issues with a fender roll. with that said, you should be perfectly ok with whatever tire size you choose

Rubbing/Offsets aside, I would not run anything wider than 245s on an 8.5 rim.

You should be running a 245/30R20 or 255/30R20 front and rear if your wheels are 8.5" wide. This would be the proper setup for the GS. If you want to stagger you can use 225/35R20 front and 255/30R20 rear as they are the same height. But running staggered tired without staggered wheels is a little weird. Not my cup of tea

How wide is the OEM 7 spoke 17" wheel? And what is the widest tire one could run on that? Does running a wider tire cause any issues with the OEM 17's?

the OEM 17" wheel is 8" wide with a +50 offset. OEM tire size is 235/45R17. You can fit a 245 or 255 on it if you really want to but I would advise against it. When the tire is too wide for the wheel the sidewalls tend to "crown" which causes to actually lose performance and handling. If you want wider tires get wider wheels

rims have a 35mm offset.... so what you guys are sayiong in the rear i am better off with the 255/30/20 instead of the 245/35/20 .... i just don't want the tire to hang over the lip[ and look doofey.... thought i would be safer with a 35 series tire instead of a 30 give me a little more meat i rather more meat than width i think....it sucks tire shops don't let you try on tires l;ike you try on a pair of nikes...lol... let me know what ya think
