2000 GS300, 180k + miles. I bought it at 124K miles a few years ago. I was thinking of selling it. I thought I would detail it up real good, do a little relatively minor maintenance and put a For Sale sign on it. Started doing the maintenance, realized if I did what really needed to be done, I may as well keep it. So, I'm in the middle of the timing belt/ water pump routine. This was the wife's DD. Thinking seriously about giving her the Benz and modding this one out and keeping it.

My GS400 is at around 225k miles, bought it with 137k in '08. Done routine maintenance and the usual suspension and bushing sort of stuff but it still runs strong and smooth, no major or even noteworthy repairs needed, you'd never know this car had half the miles it does looking at or driving it. Maintenance means everything!

99 GS4 160k. Many parts are starting to fail but engine runs like new.

What sort of parts are failing? I'm about to hit 90k so it would be nice to know some things I need to look out for.

^ starter, alternator, suspension, BMC, calipers. All at the same time on me!!! A 1uzfe is good and smooth, but it is not good without supporting mechanisms and a good chasis. >__>

235k on my 2003 gs300. no major issue. Still runs and drives smooth as ever.

2003 gs300 306,xxx miles and still going. Replace a lot of parts but with that much miles its gonna happen. Transmission went out at 295ish I forgot but still the original motor.

2001 gs430 223,xxx mile still the original motor and transmission. Only thing went out that was a B**** was the knock sensor. Since I was there I replace both knock sensor and starter. Oem parts cost me 800 shipped!!!!

interested to know if you were changing your tranny fuild like you should have. The trannies are darn near bullet proof if you change fluid like you should. I do a drain and fill with 3qts of T4 every 20k

I use Amsoil in the engine and change the oil annually so my plans are to drain the trans pan annually and put a filter in every 2 years. I am due for filter change this year. I run Midwest Converters "MidCo" T4 Synthetic fluid They make their own that is specific for T4 specifications. It is a clear/gold color not red. That is almost frustrating, it is SOOOO hard to see on the trans dipstick.



What was the failure mode of transmission failure?

We bought the car used but after we bought them we took cause of the car very well. Transmission fluid we change every 25-30k miles. We all know transmission will go out sooner or later but only thing we can do is keep it up to date. 90% of my parts are OEM if you're wondering.

im still in the 140 zone. But mainly city mileage... So this is a very hard 140

I wish there was something that could monitor engine hours, Like most heavy duty vehicles do.

It would be more accurate to me.... (At least in my case with city driving)

Cool. I bought mine at 78k and did 3 drains and fills. Hopefully it will last 300k with strict drain and fills. With the city driving I'm doing now I think I'll switch to yearly drain and fill to renew fluid. It's easier than changing oil

How easy is it to drain and refill transmission fluid? Comparable to changing oil? While I only have 89k on my 02 GS300, my commute is mostly city driving so I want to make sure the tranny lasts a long time.

I've just turned 309,000 miles on my SC300. I'm not going to say that I've spent no money on the car, it is highly maintained. It is still as it was when it came from the showroom floor. I share it at Cars & Coffee gatherings in the region and take it on tours with other enthusiasts.

I just recently switched it over to collector car insurance and bought another car as my daily driver. I'm not sure that I'll ever sell it, we've had it since 1997 and 60k miles. It has become a part of the family!
