Get $ from insurance, buy back and part out usually is a good way to go, then you can get another. I agree, with as hard as it hit, it probably has frame/unibody damage, and the problem is not so much the bodywork, it is time (labor) on the rack to straigten the car. Which is huge $.

Even my Suburban, big full size truck frame got a minor tweak to the frame up front, the hrs needed to straighten frame is what totaled it. It was hit by a semi and fortunately caught the bumper and the trailer went over the hood, my family was safe. The front bumper though was ripped off quite brutally. And that is what did it all in. I could have easily put on a front clip, but it wouldn't have lined up easily without moving the frame up front where it needed to go.

Ya they will total you. Be sure to fight for the highest value with the adjuster. Remember the adjuster works for the insurance company, his job is to make you go away for as little money as possible.

If you have mods or things that you did to the car (even maintenance), make sure you provide the insurance company with receipts. They also pay for tax/tag/title, so ensure that is separately listed when they pay you! Sometimes they will try to tell you it is in the $ they give you, but it should be itemized.

Say if you just put new tires on, give them receipts, those are worth a lot of $, or some rims or custom paint. They will cover a lot. This is where a good insurance company is separated from the crap ones. I have State Farm, and they took good care of me when the Burb was hit. We came out doing well. But many companies are pretty slimy when it comes to paying out. (Geico comes to mind....)

i would say its totalled. reason being is because its cheaper to total out our cars due to its age and value....

ours cars ar elike 7000-8000 anyways. just my personal opinion.

and SUV rolled into me on the freeway traffic and totaled my car. Damage wasnt too bad but it was enough to total it.

Sorry everybody I have no clue why but my phone wouldn't let me search the forums section for days p.o.s phone but it wasn't really n the middle it was a dirt drive covered with fresh leaves n my tires were kinda bald as it was n they couldn't grip the ground through all the leaves n was like basically on ice n jus slid right into it. The insurance company gave me 11 grand too! Only paid 7500 for it at 99k miles a yr ago! But yea auto owners are no doubt "the no problem people"

That depends on the insurance company and the state your in, im assuming your in houston by your username. Shop around and get the best quote from the big insurance companies and then try the mom and pop insurance companies in your area. Just make sure you get full coverage so you will be covered in the future if another accident like this one happens again..

A 98 GS400 with 118k miles. The insurance company will total it definitely. As soon as the repair cost reaches 75% of the car value they will total it. You can buy it back from them but they will most likely issue a salvage title and then you would have to go thru the salvage state inspection. Keep us posted on what happens. Thanx
