I have this problem and I am at 186k miles. I am pretty sure it is my valves but I think I am going to do this myself after I replace my wheel hubs

I would not recommend running sea foam for 100-200 miles in your car. Usually you do it right before an oil change and run the car hard for about 15-20 minutes until the smoke has almost stopped. You will have to replace your spark plugs if you sea foam because it will foul them.

How much for that pleasure? It's the shims that they will have to replace depending on the measurements that they take. I believe that they might have to take you cam shafts off to get to to them......

Almost sounds like popcorn cooking off in the motor. That is a totally normal sound for those engines so I assume its the same for a 1UZ.
I don't think it's normal man, I kept trying to tell myself that but it just ain't right..

*******************UPDATE********************
So the car has been at Lexus for a day, mechanic tore my engine apart and proceeded to adjust the valves, he heard the tick before tearing apart the engine and said, yep, you need a valve adjustment, so he got every valve adjusted, then apparently he saw that I have 2 bad lifters out of 4.. Everything else looks great and clean, I plan on keeping this car for another 10 years, so... I said just replace the 2 lifters and adjust the valves.... Everything will be dead quiet and I will get 18-19mpg like I'm supposed to, as apposed to the 12 I'm getting now... My total on the debit card is $1550....... I got a nice 2012 is 250 with 700 miles on it to drive for a few days....Not my gs, but it's nice....****** And the price also includes a new timing belt guys******

I know you said everything will be dead quite but what actually happened? Did it fix the tick?
